Hi, Please let me know the Performance Appraisal Cycle in your organization or as per the market survey. Can this be as per company policy, may be Jun-May or Oct-Sep? Please suggest. Thanks

Dear Krish KP,

There is no specific rule that applies across the industries. Performance cycle depends on nature of business and type of activity the person or department is engaged in.

Long ago during the days of personnel management, performance appraisal was done yearly. However, now it is done half yearly or quarterly.

For sales personnel or customer service personnel, the appraisal is done quarterly. However, for those who work on projects of longer duration, quarter is too short cycle.

While appraisal cycle can be half-yearly or quarterly, salary increased could be done yearly. No need to do it half-yearly.

Last but not the least, quarterly or half-yearly or annual cycle time, what you measure is also important. What if some vital measures are escaped from the attention of the management?

I provide consulting services to institute Performance Management System (PMS) in the company. To know more about my services, you may click here.

Dear Seniors,

Request you to guide me in following situation:

My organisation is startup organisation , as if now we are going to start the appraisal cycle for the first time , before this they did not followed the appropriate procedure as we do in PMS cycle with this i do not have any previous year data or any KRA set for the employee on which the analysis can be done, therefore the management has decided to do the market correction amongst the employee.

Now basically I don't want the same picture to be seen next year again, my question here is how do I maintain the accurate employee appraisal data of this year ,how should prepare the excel for same.
