This is called Public Provident Fund..
This scheme offers Income Tax exemption.....
This scheme is either run by Post office or Bank you have to enquire with them...
You don't need to be member of Provident Fund or to becom employed even if you are unemployed you can participate in this scheme.

PPF is Public Provident Fund.This is a Long term investment for a period of 15 years. The amount of investment could be between Rs. 500 to Rs. 70000.

Please let me know one thing. I opened a PPF account in Kashipur ( Allahabad Bank ) now i transfered to Kanpur and i want to transfer my account to kanpur but in kanpur no branch of Allahabad bank is having facility for PPF account. NOw what should i do.

There is a scheme which runs similar to PPF but gives life insurance 250 times of your fixed monthly contribution. The returns are likely to be equal to if not better than PPF.
The scheme offers ECS facility too.
It is called Jeevan Saral by LIC.
