Normally, holidays are declared on the eve of elections (whether local body or general) under Negotiable Instruments Act which essentially means the holiday shall be compensated by working in some other day.

Thanks Pon..... On that particular day our board members are coming from France, so don’t know what to do now. Hope its an offence if we call employees to work on that day.

Dear Prema,
Please go through the attached Sections of (Particularly Sec 80A, I have highlighted that sec for easy ref) The TamilNadu Panchayats Act 1994.
You have to declare that day as a holiday.
You may plan that day as a sight seeing day for visitors.
You may take them to Bangaloru or Hyderabad or some places in AP , because even all the places in Tamil Nadu are also charged with stiff political wars!

Board members comming from France, why dont you go to France and live there, all people here crib and cry over corruption and instability in government , elections are opportunities for people to exercise their vote, so that in future they may choose their will and majority prevails. Even if the state government does not issue notification, all private companies should declare holiday on 17 and 19 Oct, because being HR even though you dont want to vote which shows your love towards your country ,,, there are many employees who want to vote what about them? this attitude is not going to do anything good, i dont want to say anything to you people, dont speak with me and dont argue with me, see your face in mirror and see the devil ... kuch nahi kehna hain muze tum sab zinda lash ban gaye ho,, chullu bhar paani mein doob ke maar jao, band karo ye natak aur kal fir se compain mat karo ki kyun street light nahi jal raha, kyun garbage clean nahi hua, sharam nahi aati kisiko aur apne aap ko HR bolte hain,
