Employee gradation policy is basically done by skill differentiation, position within the organization, duties and responsibilities, Job Profile etc.

For a manufacturing industry as example Un-skilled -Gr 1, Semi-skilled -Gr 2, Skilled - Gr 3, Highly Skilled - Gr 4, Supervisory staff / Office Staff - Gr 5, Jr. Engineer - Gr 6, Asst. Engineer/ Asst. Manager - Gr 7, Sr. Engineer/ Manager - Gr. 8, Sr Manager / Dy. GM - Gr 9, GM - Gr. 10 ............. and so on.

There are many international organizations who have made job gradation. Watson Wyatt is one such organization world wide who have made Job Gradation for different Countries. In India there are consultancy services who after detailed study of the jobs provide service for job gradation against professional fees.
