I think we've seen more than expected argument here, though initially I made a comment in the favour of consultants , just want to add one more thing that not all are alike.
Everywhere you'll find good HRs and bad HR's (be it in corporate or in consultancy) cause, H stands for Human.

Please don't make things personal here. It's not about empathizing or taking sides..it's about genuinely expressing your thoughts .
HRs from both the fraternities shares a relationship of mutual benefit or dependence and no one should feel superior or inferior.

Hi All,
I feel most of us have given good tempo to the discussion.. Ash, Gunjan, Arti..even others seems to be true...
I feel its part of dealing with other person and its an art.. even during my last organisation we never misbehaved any consultant..though sometimes discussion gets hot for issues not for the person and that sort understanding requires sometimes. Though I agree as someone here said that its also duty of supervisor to guide new entrants as they may not have done profesional course and on the other hand seeing the things from HR perspective requires a lot of insight, understanding, practice etc etc...
So what if there are many recruitment consultants here n there...so what..its their right to be there thats why can get better services, n thats the reason some corporates have upper hand.. Its more a relationship of vendor management, learning from one another...
Generally, corporates n consultants set the process and timings to resolev queries...if any misbehaves its also part of other person to tackle it tactfully with maintaining own dignity...
Thats why friends we should keep learning the human processes...

I m sorry but i dont agree here. There r consultants who have earned a name in their field & they are welcomed like a business partner in their client Industries becoz of their hardwork, honesty, ethics & knowledge of business.
At the same time there are plenty who have just opened a shop kinda consultancy & try to sell them at any cost & at times try to bribe HR people with share in the placement fees. They dont do it like a business.. they hire poor young boys & gals on lower wages without any knowledge about recruitment & force them to go & meet HR people in every industry as if they are going to sell door to door soaps & creams . They are the consultants who are treated the way mentioned above.
I have seen that most companies after proper analysis (Informally) have picked up a few consultant in their loop then a relationship is developed after a long & trustworthy business. Such consultants command all due respect.
I have dealt with consultant who try to ask for share in consultancy fees, proposal for a better placement & they also try to switch employees placed by them to other customer without any moral obligation.
I hate some of them & i respect some of them.
Anybody agrees??

Thanks for your post.
I agree there are many bad consultants who can be weeded out by not giving business to them.
Here I am talking through own expereince of a small but an extremely professional consultancy who have deep roots in recruitments. Even they are treated shabbily by Bad Corp HR.

- The need is for the Good Corp HR to influence the Bad Corp HR and help cleanup the system for the Good Consultants & ethical recruitment practices
- Good consultants suffer both because of Bad Corp HR & Bad Consultants.
- Only Good Corp HR can Help

I feel it uncomfortable to define good or bad either to corp HR or consultants rather we can say adopting better HR practices.. As you all discussed setting up processes are important... but at end its person interacting with other person. For individuals there is need to understand the mental model...ie perception about own self, own team, own organisation as well perception for others and also having dialogue (dia-logus ie having meaningful conversation) and converstaions..
Anyway it was quite healthy discussion altogether..
