Dear Nitu

What are you doing Nitu. Hope you are married. How much you have carried as dowry to your in law's house. For your education how much donation your parents have paid? Please collect these details and start posting about the Principle (So called Principle) in this Forum.

Have you ever stayed out of Gujarat. If so, have you faced any language problem, for 10 year and 7 year old kids, how can they manage to learn a new language and come across the exams. Here in Gujarat do you aware there is a language Gujarati, compulsory for the kids. If you opt for CBSE syllabus, obviously you have to pay otherwise if you tell I have the principle not to pay any donation, then do you think your state people will give admission for the principle you have with you. Do you think your principle will serve your purpose. Even after repeated instructions during parents teachers meeting, the teachers are interacting with the kids only with Hindi or Gujarati. (This is the condition of Gujarat CBSE). They are unable to understand the simple English of kids. For their support co-students are coming forward to interact with teacher. And you are advising about Principles.

This is the present scenario in CBSE School, then it is needless to say about the state board education and its quality.

We are not seeking top ranked school, we are seeking only basic common language speaking education to all our kids, which is not available in Gujarat. If it is south side you just tell the teachers to take care as they are not aware of the local language, surely they will take of your kids and in due course with their special attention your kids will start speaking that areas local language too.

You can take a resolution that you will not accept any bribe or gift from some one. But you cannot deny for giving bribe or gift, if you do so you cannot function as a successful person.

Hi Dear S Bhaskar

"You can take a resolution that you will not accept any bribe or gift from some one. But you cannot deny for giving bribe or gift, if you do so you cannot function as a successful person"

With reference to the above mentioned opinion, I would like state an example from my own life.

I got a promising job offer from a company in Kuwait, due to new international developments I was required to get PCC (Police Clearance Certificate) from RPO to complete my VISA formality in order to make smooth entry to Kuwait. As per the process RPO requires local police verification papers to issue PCC, which is a simple 3 day process I was duly explained by an honest official at RPO. As I waited for the verification by police, 2 weeks passed, on enquiring I was suprised and dismayed because they asked for a bribe to forward my papers, even though my papers were clean and clear of any issues. I refused to pay the bribes and demanded an explanation for such delays. The police was rude and arrogant, they behaved as if they owned my destiny, days turned into months, I lost the job offer due to delays, it was a traumatic experience, I took the matter to the regional collector level and i was brushed aside, shown the door saying that this passport matters doesnt fall into his responsibilities, he personally advised me to pay up the bribe instead of resenting else the police ego and amount will rise make situation more worse for me. I did not give up. I marched into the police station collecting all my courage I told the incharge inspector no matter what happens I will not pay the bribe. I did get emotional and made them realise how they were playing with my career and responsibilities. They finally forwarded my papers, I got my PCC in 68 days instead of normal 7 - 10 days process. I agree I lost a a good job offer, I got another one, which is not that great as earlier one ( destiny) but I m content that I fought a little war against corruption and came out victorious. Sensitizing corrupt officials, making them realize how wrong they were, which was a bigger punishment than penalizing them for corruption.

For short term success and convenience we cannot afford this corruption to penetrate our lives. We are creating a world of injustice and frustration for our future generations. Good has to win over evil, This poison of corruption will threaten our very existence.

Dear Hussain,
I am not condoning the bribe. But the case narrated by you is different. Suppose one of your near & dear is admitted in a Govt hospital out of road accident and battling for life. In such circumstances, Doc or Nurses demand some bribe to carryout the emergency operation. Will you apply your principle that time?
Principles sometimes become ineffective in our society. Bhaskar is trying to explain in the same way, I think

Hi Pon

Yes I agree with you and Bhaskar, when it comes to matter of life and death we need to bow our heads to this corrupted monsters, but my intention is to convey that, we shall take a strong stand against corrupt practises which can be controlled or discouraged, with persistent resistance, there will be a time when our society can reach atleast 80% corruption free levels. where asking for a bribe will be considered a sin or looked terribly down upon. when being honest will be a cool thing,

We encourage corruption for our petty conveniences, not realizing that we are feeding this monster to become big and big, which is very beautifully explained by seniors in this thread.

Donation to schools, colleges by low performers.
Bribe to get early delivery of Gas Cylinders
Bribe to clear traffic law violations
Bribe to get a job
Bribe to get a passport, just because one doesnt wanna go through required security paper checks or just to get an early passport for convenience.

Many a times we dont want to fight, fearing backlash, we teach our children not to fight against injustice, corruption, remain fearful of this corrupt officials further passing the baton of acceptance and tolerance.

Lets first tackle small small corruption in our daily routines and eradicate corruption, then we can strive to remove bigger menance from matters affecting life and death !!

Its happening, and as a young Indian I dream that this country will be free from this monsters, and I shall begin this change in my heart !! .. and be a seed of revolution !!

Thanks for reading !!

Dear Hussain,
I agree to your views. Let us hope for the best.
Our lifestyle, our way of living, our relationship with society, etc are totally different than 50 yrs ago. If something bad thing happens to our neighbours, we are reluctant to come out fearing backlash. We are isolated in our life. No unity. We elect the wrong leaders. We take freebies from politicians and in turn they loot thousand times more than what they gave. We forget the corrupt leaders so quickly, our memory is short, and elect them again by fully knowing their demeanours. Lot of corrective measures to be taken as a whole. As long as we remain gullible, they will have upper hand only.

Dear Mr. Hussain Zulfikar

I appreciate your courage and adventure to succeed, If you paid the bribe to the concerned police immediately you might got your destiny, might have retained your peace of mind, they task might have accomplished in 7 to 10 days. But the adventure (All inconveniences are adventures - Rightly considered) you have done cost you a good destiny (now you got only second best and not the first best), 2 months delay in getting your job done, 2 months filled with mental agony, loss of peaceful sleep, with that what you have taught to the police person............ It is a big ZERO. Because these are all acting in a gang and there will not be any real action against anyone.

Is that money you are going to loss is more worth than your peace of mind, your destiny. Your two months peaceful sleep is less value than the money he demanded as bribe for your destiny. We must think in that way Mr. Hussain Zulfikar. (That Means I am not supporting the Bribe system, but as said by me earlier, I can take resolution that I will not accept bribe or donation or gift from any other person but I cannot avoid offering to accomplish my requisites get fulfilled). In other way you can decently name it as Opportunity Cost in terms of Economics.

Even one Asst Labour Commissioner at Andhra Pradesh caught red handed and suspended for a while, but after 7 years period, the same person took over the same office with 2 promotions (in 7 yrs period) and assumed as Joint Labour Commissioner of the district and started earning in multiples of earlier collection.

Dear Mr. Hussain

We encourage corruption for our petty conveniences, not realizing that we are feeding this monster to become big and big, which is very beautifully explained by seniors in this thread.

Shall we decently call it hereinafter as Opportunity Cost!!!!!!!!!

Donation to schools, colleges by low performers.

It is not the matter of Low performer. For Pre KG / LKG students where you get the performance level? Please throw some light on the issue?????

Bribe to get early delivery of Gas Cylinders

Here If you are not giving something to the delivery boys then what will be cost you will have to pay for purchase of food for 2 days. Will it affordable to a lower middle class family? Have you ever analysed in that angle?????

Bribe to clear traffic law violations

If you are abiding the traffic rules strictly too, you will be asked for license, RC Book, Insurance, if you have everything then next question will be Overspeed for which you cannot prove that you have never overspeeded. If you are not offering 50 or 100 perks then your two days are gone by simply roaming behind the police, court and other so called officials. Is it worth than your 50 or 100 perks??????

Bribe to get a job

I am dead against this one. Wherever I worked or working, I got only on merit and not on any influence or bribe. As I am not having any influence in my company or in any political party, I am being engaged in Western India after leaving my home state where more jobs are going on. But after coming here only I started feeling (after seeing the struggle of my children to cope up in their studies) I should use the influence.

Bribe to get a passport, just because one doesnt wanna go through required security paper checks or just to get an early passport for convenience.

Even if you have every documents and details proper, your paper will be kept pending for want of Bribe......... For example one of my colleague Mr.xxx applied for passport for his daughters who are studying B Tech Final year and B Tech III Year respectively and they have to undergo some online exam for which Passport No is required. He applied, Police verification is pending. Now whatever he paid Rs.10000/- each for both daughters have gone waste. If he could have paid Rs.1000 per passport, his daughters might have given the exams and their career will be opened up.

Many a times we dont want to fight, fearing backlash, we teach our children not to fight against injustice, corruption, remain fearful of this corrupt officials further passing the baton of acceptance and tolerance.

Here you are correctly said it. Really we are teaching our children to live with harmony with the society. But now Mr. Good HR Associates has forced to write this thread because the tolerance level has been crossed in Bribing. We should join our hands to fight against the corruption and we must give our voice.

Thanks for sharing your views Mr. Hussain Zulfikar.

Dear Mr. Pon
You have correctly understood the contents what I intended to convey and its meaning.
Thanks for your understandings. Our immediate attention is required mainly to get our India's wealth lying with Swiss Banks and removal of corrupted leaders and as like In China (Hope 5 years back) for Adulteration case the Chinese Government give capital sentence. Whereas if the same take place in India the Punishment will be Rs.5000/- fine or 3 months imprisonment or both. So only we are not aware of what is the Ghee we are consuming, Which Milk we drink daily, what are the products got adulterated with which poison.
Let us expect the Lokpal bring some changes in our society.

Dear Bhaskar

I completely understand the helplessness against this issues, wherein a small bribe may help us from bigger stress and considering hectic competitive life we live in, we prefer to part with such bribe, but we are sinking in deeper troubles by this tolerant behavior, there may be 1000 examples which we can debate on justifying bribe and helplessness we suffer.

Donation to schools, colleges by low performers.

Donation demanded by KG schools is completely unethical, we cannot judge cute little toddlers on merit, they deserve schooling by all standards, typically it should be first come first serve basis, fees should be appropriately charged in order to run schools effectively, there are govt grants, financial aids, trustees and to support education systems, still schools demand donations or bribes, somewhere this is encouraged by parents themselves in order to win some kind of psychological show off game or wanting best for their kids, rich parents show off their money power and get preferential admission to their wards ahead or against the deserving ones.

My intention was also to mention heavy donations paid by students in colleges, being low performers they still gain seats into big names with help of money power.

Bribe to get early delivery of Gas Cylinders

We all know, there are sufficient supplies with gas companies, yet this corrupt gas agencies create false hype of shortage to make more bucks, why they do this, because they know Indians are scared people, a little muscle power, even some abusive words and this normal middle class Indians will sit quiet, we will not stand together, our neighbors, society members, community members will not come forward to fight this wrong, we individually would pay the bribe and chuckle to get the delivery before hand than our neighbor. One strong Indian raising his voice will be suppressed by 100 weak Indians, what an irony !

Bribe to clear traffic law violations

When we fail to respect our own rights, then this police officials take us for a ride, I have argued with the police officials for wrongly asked bribes, and I have promptly paid my fines when I have broken traffic laws, even by mistake, even though roads are messily designed.

There can be many more examples, which we can get into details, but that is not my point. My point is, as responsible citizen of India, we should take every opportunity to sensitize any corrupt official or act we face in our routine lives. Corrupt officials are also normal people, facing stress or some kind of problem, or they are sheer greedy, but under all the dirt there is a nice human being hidden, we need to remove this dirt, slowly and steadily and bring out that nice person out. Making them realize what they are doing to their fellow countrymen, and how this will backfire there generations to come.

I m very impressed and inspired by the movie, “Lage Raho Munna Bhai” in which the Ghandian philosophy is well presented, this corrupt people are sick, ill, diseased, they need to be cured, and each and every one of us can be the doctors, sweepers, cleaners of this dirt.

Change will not happen overnight, one day, one case, one act, one word, one change at a time. I see it happening… !!

Hi Bhaskar

With reference to the losses I faced for not bribing to get my PCC, I understand I could have benefitted. But something stopped me from bribing, at that point of time, It was the limit of my tolerance, the behavior, the arrogance, the Invincibility of corruption which made me think, what I m feeding !

Corruption has become a normal routine affair in our lives, was sick of paying bribes and humiliated at most events which involved interacting with public officials, and inspite of paying bribes we are at thier mercy, join hands, bow our heads and beg them to do the work for which they have to do as thier duty. They behave as if there is no god, no justice, no wrongs and rights, no conscience, no respect.

As discussed earlier in thread,,, are we really free .. ?? we are slaves to this corruption now .. !! .. for our peace of mind we are selling our dignity .. infact we are paying bribes to make this corrupt people more stronger to rule us, today they are smiling when taking bribes, tomorrow they will threaten us !! lets wait for those days !! .. we can justify our opportunity cost !!
