Hi,

Have you ever thought about using a skill matrix as a database? I mean, putting all the information into Microsoft Access, SQL, or any other database. Would it be convenient to have all the information you need about employees in one Excel file?

Thank you.

Dear All,

An employee (management staff) worked on the paid holiday, and his weekly off was also on the same day. He is requesting two compensatory offs for the same day. In my opinion, since he is management staff, his weekly off falls on the paid holiday; hence, it is considered lapsed, and he can avail compensatory time off for the day he worked on the paid holiday.

Kindly advise.

Hi, I am a PGDM-HR student and I want to know in detail what a skill matrix is and how someone is evaluated in a skill matrix. I would also like to review a skill matrix format. Please email it to me at swatilekha.saha@rediffmail.com.

  • Dear Colleagues,

The Skills Matrix is the heart of your Career Portfolio. In the matrix, you can add different skills and experiences you've acquired through classes, jobs, and other activities. As you complete your education and after graduation, your matrix will grow with your accomplishments. Don't expect to fill up every section right away; your portfolio is meant to be developed over time as you master new skills.

What are the available skills and experiences? Skills include Communication, Creativity, Critical Thinking, Leadership, Life Management, Research/Project Development, Social Responsibility, Teamwork, and Technical/Scientific. You can also add your own skill.

Experiences describe where and how you've obtained those skills, including Courses, Jobs, Service/Volunteer Work, Memberships/Activities, and Interests/Life Experiences.
