Dear Mr. Raman,
I am an ISO 9000 auditor since long.
You have mentioned that you intend working in HR in the IT field. In that case, it is more relevant for you to do ISO 20000 course which is for IT Services.
OHSAS and EMS are more relevant to manufacturing industries.
A word of caution. The training program is quite expensive to do on one's own. Plus there is the question of some five full days of absence from work. It is always better if you can manage a company sponsorship.
It will be certainly advantageous for the HR person in an IT industry to be qualified in ISO 20000. He can then take the lead in organising for the certification of the company and lead it in maintaining it. The IT guys will not have the time or patience for it!
By the way: Certification is what a company gets for the standard and Lead Assessor qualification is what an individual obtains.

Dear Mr. Murdhar,
Greeting for the day!
Thank you so much for your comments. I am not working in HR, rather I am working as an Administrative Manager. Since security, safety and health, statutory & legal compliance and facility management comes directly under the purview of Administration of a company, I felt that certification in OHSAS and EMS atleast at foundation level will help me in working effectively as an administrator of the company. Further it may help me in getting better opportunities in big IT MNCs and major manufacturing companies. Waiting for your comments.
Thanking you,
with warm regards

Dear Shri Ramana
It should be clear that EMS and OHSAS certifications are available to and are meant for Organisations and not for individuals. Individuals employed in Organisations can have opportunity of gaining experience in preparing the Organisation ready for Certification, of being a part of the process to get the Certifications for his Organisation and later in implementation .
For this, the prerequisite is that the Organisations decide at high level to go for the Certifications in question taking into account the benefits of the Certifications, the direct cost involved (certification fee to Certifying agencies, professional fee for the Agencies for preparing the Organisation for Certification, fee for renewal of Certification after the validity period, etc.), cost involved in generating the required procedures and documentation, cost involved in undertaking additional training to meet the requirement of the Certifications, cost equivalent for sparing the MR (Management Representative of the Organisation) for the work related to preparation for Certifications, and other related costs. HR, Administration or HSE Manager may take initiative in gathering the required data on Costs and Benefits to convince the top management to go for the Certifications and get the budget allocation for the purpose.
The person designated as MR will have maximum opportunity to gain and claim experience in implementation of Certifications. This certification would certainly be useful in enriching the CV of the person and may be helpful to get an edge over others in career advancement.
I agree with Shri Murthar that 'experience in getting the Certifications and their implementation' will be more beneficial to Technical Persons for career growth, when compared to HR / Admn. Managers.
Individuals can do training courses for Lead Auditors for these Certifications to supplement their professional qualification in HR, Administration or HSE.

ISO 14001 Environmental Management can be a very effective ISO 14001 EMS Certification tool to identify these cost savings opportunities for some organizations. Some other organizations can falter in its planning, lack of senior management commitment and poor understanding of how it should be implemented and find themselves managing an ineffective ISO 14001 EMS Certification . Among the key benefits of the ISO 14001 EMS Certification standard some of as follows:

ISO 9001 does NOT define the actual quality of your product or service. The standard helps you achieve consistent results and continually improve the process. Thus, if you can make a good product most of the time, this helps you make it all of the time. It's just a series of good, basic business practices. Example of ISO 9001 applied to making cookies.

Many organizations decide to Implement ISO 9000 quality management approaches and obtain ISO 9001 registration because it assures customers that the company has a good Quality Management System (QMS) in place. Many organizations require their suppliers to have ISO9001 Registration. The concept of executing an ISO 9000 quality process allows companies to have access to a wider market for their products, particularly in the international arena, but also within their own countries.
