Dear Shantanu,
if Sunday is Holiday and you were instructed by immediate superior / higher management to complete certain task on same day. if no policy for "working on Holiday" then type of reimbursement is in hand of company whether they reimburse the salary for the day or will give you compensatory off.

Travel on business on sunday and avail c.off on week day is not healthy and definitely not welcome, as such you are more needed on week days. There is no industry-wide practice to this effect. Furthermore it affects the office decorum too. As such your body needs rest, so also your subordinates too, because of you Vadodra personnel also has to work on sunday, for them there is no compensation and any amount of compensation is inadequate.
While all of us have travelled on sundays at times but it cannot be made a regular practice and such tendencies cannot be encouraged.

If you are going to Baroda for work at the instance of management, then it is appropriate for you to clam a compensatory off if so provided in the company's rules. If you are going to Baroda on Sunday on your own decision, then it may not be a prudent practice. The costs you are saving for the company by cheap air fare is neutralized by the loss of man hours for a day on account of compensatory off on a working day.
