I need to understand the leave rule for the following.
I usually undertake an air travel on a sunday from bangalore to vadodara & back for official reasons. This is mainly due to cheap fares, by which my company is benefited while reimbursing and secondly because i am available for work from monday to saturday.
Can those sundays be compensated?

Who has advised you to book on Sundays? If it is your voluntary act then how you can claim for compensation for the day? If advised by company then Company need to compensate the Weekly Off day.

First of all, thanks for the response. Well, i just needed to know the standard rule. Its quite obvious that any employee will not opt to spend a holiday working if not required. Moreover, its always a fact that we all employees need to work on a company's interest.
Being in the designation of senior management, no one advises. We need to take own decisions in the interest of the company.

If your role (not mere designation) is managerial in nature, you can’t claim anything.

Hi Shantanu,
Going on with the current concepts and scenario's , not with legislation, yes you are entitled to be benefited with a compensatory off. You are doing work for company's interest and in return it is not of a big deal to get an off against working on Sunday. You can raise this request to HR and I am sure they will consider it evaluating your deliverable and commitment.

Dear Shantanu,
Irrespective of his status of employment in the organization, any employee can be permitted to travel by air both ways even on a holiday depending on the importance and urgency of the work to be done. If it is as per the instruction of your immediate superior, you are entitled to compensatory off. How you have phrased the query, the frequency of such a travel and its justification mentioned therein are not only indicative of your sense of responsibility and frugality but also the discretionary powers vested in you. Still you are a bit indecisive, better obtain a blanket permission from the CEO. Taking some time off during the next working day after such an arduous travel usually undertaken on holidays in the interest of the organization by a responsible manager is a trivial matter in the day to day activities of the establishment and as such these things will not matter much in an ideally managed organization. At the same time, it would be quite unbecoming on the part of a manager to claim it as a matter of right like an employee in the lower rung.

Dear Shantanu,
Compensatory Leave is provided, when one has to work on weekly off or NH or FH on call of the mangemrnt. It is from no angle your case is seemed to fall under Compensatory Leave option. You just use the sunday for your vested interest.

Dear Shantanu,
I recommend you travelling on week days rather than on Sunday. This will settle matter for asking for the compensatory off (comp off). As such you say that asking for comp off does not look good for your level.
Anyway, some travel will always be on and above the working hours. Now imagine that you travel to Baroda on Monday and on Saturday, on completion of work you take flight for say 1900 or 2000 hours. Flight from Baroda to Bangalore takes about two hours and further to reach home it could take 1-1.5 hours. Therefore, you could reach home by midnight.
Now my question is on account of travel, have you not put up extra working hours from 1800 to 2400 hours? How will you account that?
Thanks,
Dinesh Divekar

Dear Mr. Ghosh,
Greetings for the day,
If you Have Holiday On SUNDAY & u are on official tour whatever mode it may be then this should be treated as WORKING DAY and against it u will be compensated with 'Compensatory-Off' which should be apart from Leave and payment of that should also be done as per rate of salary.

Dear Shantanu,
its depends on company leave policy , as per designation employee can avail Compensatory off. but obvious i agree with Dinesh sir as you can travel on work day. apart from these i can suggest one more thing that in your TA rules it will be covered as when you are applying for TA it will considered your Sunday as work day and on that ground you can avail your off on next day of your travel completion buy informing to your HR dept, as they are aware about the situation as normally its HR role to book your tickets and look for weekly off as well.
so, no wary you can avail it as normally executives of various company taking off on the next day of travel if they spend sunday as on duty on travel or on conference/ meeting.
