Agree.
Putting such illegal things in the Appointment Letter will make the whole thing illegal.
One can not just put anything or any conditions based on one's whims and fancy.
You are running an organization, a Company; or is it something else ??!!!

Apart from illegality of the proposal, many times the demand of the employees are simple, inexpensive also. Like say clean toilets, water cooler at work place, protective gears (which find place in factories act also) good and working computers / servers / printer cum photocopiers / other similar gadgets, lighting and so on. What is lacking is proper communication of such needs to the management. This leads to dissatisfaction. Therefore management (read a good HR) must keep in touch with the employees with an ear to the ground as it were, so that any trouble in the making can be anticipated and taken care of.

Dear All,
Thank you for you valuable replies. Our management and employees have a very good rapport.Further to your question why the management wants to put such a clause in the letter is that all the employees should come to their seniors with their problems rather than going to any third party.

""Further to your question why the management wants to put such a clause in the letter is that all the employees should come to their seniors with their problems rather than going to any third party.""
With due regards, this is not the way to make employees come to seniors with problems, rather than 3rd parties.
Firstly union consists of employees only.
Secondly seniors need to behave ina manner that employees feel free to discuss their problems.
Thirdly legality of banning employees from forming unions has been discussed.
