Dear Vidya,
Many times an HR has to face such circumstances. Not in this organization only, might be during your employment tenure you have to face such blurred situations in future too. I have faced the same situations in the initial years of my career & sometimes still facing because some bosses are in not in the favor of HR deptt as they think HR deptt is a non-revenue generating deptt as comparative to other deptts. But don’t feel sad or regret of being HR.Take interest in your boss's opinion & try to find out the reason behind it. Show the importance of your work, take initiative slowly. Stay calm & be patient. Wait for such chance where nobody can help him out except the HR.Don't loose hope, learn & try to tackle a difficult boss instead of searching a new job as this a tough time to search a job during recession. I believe that you will learn something out of it. Try to align your objectives with your company’s objectives or for the benefit of company. Think for a while from the point of view of your boss before thinking anything negative. Always remember one thing that we work for our own experience & benefit. Try to explore new ideas for yourself whether your boss appreciate it or not. Keep doing & stay positive in every situation. Take life as it comes.

Hi Vidhya,
Appreciate your situation, but i guess that you see that we all face these types of situations too. the secret is to believe in your own abilities and self worth. ultimately your self belief and your self confidence will be your strongest ally. Tough times dont last... tough people do.
Take care & Chin Up ....:icon1:

Dear Vidhya..
I hope that the views from many seniors might have eased you up to a great extent.. Though I m not a senior member, still want to share some of my views with you..
"HR, in the organisation is the most imp. & pillar function.. But still many senior professioanls don't understand its importance.. They need to know that HR function in a company works like a mother's role in the family.. Always trying to take care of the its people.. Trying to line up & maintain the things in the proper direction.. Motivating people, Managing them, Supporting, COunselling etc......, But still asking for no reward in the end.. They need to understand what will be the organisation's future without HR in a lead role..
I would like to suggest that please dont get dipressed or demotivated.. Just love your profession & have confidence in it.. Try to make your boss understand about this.. With your consistent & confident efforts, soon his thinking will become HR oriented..

Hi
Iam nithya , Assistant Manager HR .
I personally feel that your new boss would have experienced some negative incident y HR Department , s he faced an great loss. That is why he stopped giving importance to HR Department .
I Would say that now a days HR people are lacking in coordination skills , And so The management has started to work on its own because many tasks are getting delayed because of HR . This is really a bad sign , In forth coming years if this continues there will be no HR Deptmt at all .
So we must start improving the team we are handling make them understand the importance of EFFICIENT COORDINATION !! Iam just saying it generally.
As per this situation it is totally out of your control . As HR Is just bridge between Management and employees , It is upto Management to utilize the HR . So you will have to wait and see or else get into an place where HR Deptmnt is givin importance :)
Hope you are feeling better .

Hi Vidya,
its disturbing to know the situaton u r in now... but wats more disturbing is the way 'HR' ppl here are advising u to accept it as part and parcel of ur career and just lie there waitng for ur boss to suddenly have an enlightement abt the imp of HR and come to u on his own.
How do u think that will happen? will a light flash across his face from the sky and some voice tells him abt the imp of HR? or will he be dragged into a room by someone to lecture him abt the HR?
Have u ever heard of either of these things happen with anyone? I definitely dint.
In the absence of such divine interventions, i think U shud 'do' something to making him realize ur worth.
- 1st, stop waiting for him to acknolwedge ur role and involve u in everything.
- stop feeling offended abt not being informed abt things at office.
- u r experienced enuf to understand and know ur worth. use that to turn ur situation to favor u.
- u say he doesnt know anything abt HR, take it as an oppurtunity to tell him abt it.
- come up with ideas and analysis of data useful to company's growth.
- if possible, try sending these info to a person one level above ur boss...just as a CC.So that ur boss cannot ignore ur info.
- tell ur HODs firmly that if HR is not involved in the interviews then u will not issue the appointment letters. if they still dont involve u then tell them that they can take the appointment letters from the clerical staff but not u.(trust me this works. i did it in my last orgn)
- conduct skip-level meetings with the staff. stay in touch with employees. they r ur primary concern...not ur boss.
mainly, take initiative, be proactive.....and never get demotivated....
ur boss, who doesnt know anything abt ppl or HR is NOT the one who decides wat ur role in the orgn is or decides wat u r capable of doing.....
try ur best vidhya and once u have decided u have given it ur complete effort and still the boss is the same, then approach the higher management as a final try. even then if things dont change then quit. immediately. coz such an orgn which neglects its Human Capital is bound to be doomed sooner or later.
just remember this ..... never just lie low and accept watever crap treatment anyone gives u in the name of 'part n parcel of HR job'....coz its not. u dont have to be aggressive abt it but dont be a doormat either.....
all the best and keep us posted .....

Hi Ravi,
Posts here dont make anyone feel lost. Its left to the starter to decide what plan she must adopt. May be the views here would help her decide what she is supposed to do the next, or atleast this may/might help her in her own thinking process.
Its easier to critisize :-), difficult to contribute.:)
PS: The problem quoted here has no standard output/result. It is defined by the time she would take to stop worrying and start acting. No one may have the ANSWER directly here or just a one way solution, its all in what Vidya choses to do....

Hi Vidya,
I can understand your situation. Take this as an opportunity to understand people
and why they behave like that. After all HR is not "Human Resource" its more of
"Human Relations".
People will be the same everywhere. What's the guarantee that the next boss will
have immense respect for HR ? Not all people are same and neither the way we treat
all of them are same.
Have patience and do your best. Am sure things will work out if YOU want to.
Keep the faith.
Good Luck ! :icon1:

Hi Vidya,
Do not be de-motivated by this. Actually even I had went through the same situation so I can understand what you are going through. Remember one thing, some bosses have the mentality that they do not wish to give authority to their employees. They want to be the one and only showman in the whole company. They do not accept others' ideas. It an employer's mentality. However, I would suggest you to keep cool and prove him the importance of HR Department.
Last but not the least : " Never lose your self-respect. No position in this world is important at the cost of your self-respect."
