If nothing works, alternatively think of remitting in cash for the short of days in NP, say 4 weeks or so in order to quit as early as possible. (First of all enhancing your notice period just now over and above what was in your original Apptt.letter itself is arbitrary) If you consider the New assignment is comparatively lucrative you might as well decide to join at any cost, isn't.?

i am scared my present company might put their foot down and the new company might not wait beyond 8. in the bargain i might end up job less. this risk factor is making me reconsider.

Please consider my suggestion - If I had been in your shoes, I would've definitely taken an appointment & made up to the NE reasoning your possibilities of joining 'em but also to comphrehend their outcome (decision). Certainly, a clarity on this would be sorted unless you sit with them across the table. The way you appraoch is also an inclination to show that you're a definite candidate with a strong will to join the company.
Call the concerned, take an appointment and go about what you feel about the current situation and ask their expert advise too.
Trust this works..!!

Thanks Sharmila. Your insights have been valuable. I have already done that last week. I was told they would need to discuss this with their business head. On the question of by when, was told in a day. Its day two today. Should i call them or wait until tomorrow?
i am being hired at a senior level not an ex level. so am also a bit worried on what i project with my communication. don't want to come out a desperate or immature.

Ofcourse you should. If they haven't called up within time specified you must inquire your status with them. Why stay in ambiguity? Trust talking across table will surely give you positive input. At least you'll come to know your chances of recruitment at new employer. Else do not waste much time & withdraw your resignation asap! Its high time to take decision now.

Something obvious!! call them today, check whom are you calling, if you say that you've been hired in a senior level, speak to a senior manager or a HR manager who can deal with it faster...you know why!
I hope this would expunge your doubts at ease.

I finally wrote to the NE about the exact date i could join them, which was after 12 weeks & that there was no flexiblity from my present company. even if they did agree to release me it would on buy out of notice period.
After following up the whole day i got a revert stating they are ok with the wait & i could join them on completion of my entire notice period. This comes as a big relief for me.
Thank!! you all. Sharmila & Hiral, you were there when i needed a unbiased opinion & its been a big help. Appreciate your prompt respose too.
