Dear Seniors,

Greetings .....!

I was working for a company as senior manager, I received a better offer from another company after qualifying many rounds of interview and was sent an offer letter to join on 30 Mar 2020. But due to the outburst of COVID 19 the company deferred my DOJ two weeks, but I was relieved from my present company. The deferment kept on extending as the pandemic spread across the country as the lockdown kept extended by the government.

As the lockdown has been relaxed now, I tried reaching the HR & TA team for an update on my new DOJ, the company HR/TA Team is not responding to my calls & mails. they just blame the management has not decided yet and I will have to wait.

It is more than two and half months now and I am jobless and I am the only bread earner for my family.

Kindly help me as what should be my next step to deal with such a situation as I have not received any communication from the company HR.

Warm Regards,

Juliet

The management and the HR is helpless now. You cannot blame them for not allowing you to join because the situation is very bad. One thing you should understand is that every decision involves an element of risk. Leaving one organisation and joining another is a decision involving risk. The risk is that the new organisation may not be fair to you but you will come to know of it only after you join the new company. In the present case, you left the previous company but the new company could not accommodate you due to reasons beyond their control. had the situation be fair, they would have allowed you to join. Had you continued with the previous company, you would have been employed and earned salary. these are unfortunate and you should blame yourself for fate. You cannot take any legal action against the employer for not allowing you to join because in the present scenario nobody including the apex court would be able to direct any employer to allow one to join and then keep in without payment of salary. Please read the verdict of Supreme Court which directs the employers to settle the issue of payment of salary during the lockdown period.

Termination of your current employees having good skill set that are very difficult to find after the pandemic over or in the future, also it involves more time and cost.. Retain the existing employees; you can do a paycut from their salary and find out other options to reduce unnecessary cost.
It will helpful for your company in long term.

This would be most uncertain condition for employees as well as employer side. Its not only for startup includes MNC. Rather blaming one on one its better to maintain patience and understand the other side situation.
Its the time to rethink, unlearn, learn for our self. Where it will be new normal who has the more/most skill only survive or get a new job. we may have to work efficiently as we use to. Its a time to show gratitude to our company if you are still working.
But change will be new normal now. you have to most efficient what the company is looking for now. If you dont have job for any reasons try to improve your skills, start connecting with new people.
