HI All,
I am working in a UK based BPO as an HR Executive. I have done my M.Com as regular student, and just started my MBA from SCDL in HR specialization. Today is the last day for me to change my specialization, I am really confused between the HR and Finance Specialization. I have interest in HR side, But want to keep my options open in the Finance sector as well, Because i am doubtful about HR prospects in US or any other country being an Indian. Because i doubt to manage the people in US or UK, the companies might not recruit INdian to understand and manage them. so for that reason i am planning to keep Finance as an option eventhough having an Interest in HR side . Can anybody suggest me, what are the prospects in HR side, Or else I should change it to Finance side.
Can also anybody suggest, if i do MBA IN Finance, and also do some DIploma in HR , will it be possible that i can get the jobs in HR, if i will not be so successfull in FInance????

it depends upto you. before going to take decision, implement SWOT anlysis in urself and think cool and find out ur strength and weakness then you can take a right decision. whatever u choose u have to be perfect in that area. so taking urs present strength, u chose your career. As HR is concerned it has bright future. thinking deeply

Hi Nisha,
I have hands-on experience in both Finance & HR, so I know a little about both.
I agree with your own suggestion that you should specialise in finance here and then in the US, if you want to, you can do a course in HR there. Or, if you want to continue in Finance, you will have to do a refresher course there to pick up US-specific knowledge about finance/accounts/taxes.

as other told you, its up to you to decide the career options. you corelate your academic qualification with your profession. sit and list out what are all the strong points you know in HR and weak points in HR, also strong and weak points in finance.
as a HR person, i would suggest you to take up the career on HR. which is right now booming in all corners. and it will continue. Because man power is more important and without it nothing can be moved. so that activity is vested in HR department. 2. finance is more of a traditional in nature (as far as my knowledge is concerned. please pardon me finance people if i hurt on this statement) because you cannot create anything on your own in finance, the same debits and credits formula you need to follow all time and anytime. but in HR you have things and create things on your own, as human dimensions differs, so also HR dimensions differs accordingly. you have freedom to think, create, develop and get experience from HR. whereas in finance even if you think you cannot change the accounting entries on your own, you must follow the debit and credit principle.3. Finance is Traditional, HR is functional. 4. finance has less hierarchy to grow in career. (jr, sr, asst manager-finance, manager finance, gm, director etc., in HR you have lot of options, welfare officer, HR officer, personnel officer, Hr generalist, IR manager, personnel manager, so you can climb to any of those options and grow to top in your career.

We often come across words/phrases such as "passion for the profession" and "interest" when getting advise from professionals.
I have been in your shoes and I have learnt one important thing - no matter what you decide to specialize in, remember you are always a "manager" and will have to think big. You will eventually want to be a "leader" in a thought pattern that serves a company achieve its objectives.
Therefore, please learn to begin with the end in mind. There is no guarantee that you will do a job in the area of specialization forever. Professions are dynamic in this world. They require multiple skills. Hence try to move into a zone where you can add value as a thought leader.
If any area stimulates you and excites you for now, then do it after you understand that this also is only a part of the career that you may adopt.
Be open to that change process and you will do well for yourself.
