Hello. myself Srishty and I am pursuing MBA HR, so what is the scope for Professional Degree Students in this current scenario. I wanna ask that the freshers are full of energies and ethusiasum to get a job in a good and top most companies so is it necessary that a person should get an experience and then should think to be recruited by that companies. The companies hiring for marketing, production, purchase or sales sectors mostly. The job vacancies are for experienced end experts then where we freshers are lacking behind? Plz suggest me What did the companies require from the today's fresher?

Hi. I am also an HR professional, having ventured in HR after working in hotel operations. You are right in surmising that companies are looking for people in mktg, finance, operations departments and so on. While I maynot have heaps of experience, I can put forth a few observations and questions that hopefully might help you. Here goes:

1. U r pursuing MBA from which institute? What is your motivation behind doing MBA? Is it getting a good job, creating a knowledge pool, want for education or other? Which semester ru studying in? Whatever may be the answers to these questions, you need to understand that a lot of education happens in an MBA course through own motivation. You will have to talk to ur seniors, peers, professors to get various perspectives. Reading books, participating in competitions (of Bschools) also will help in widening your spectrum. It is these things that will make you employable. It should be noted that in this time of quick returns, companies don't have time to train people, especially new talent in the company.

2. HR is and will be a support function for a company, which is typically seen as a cost centre with no direct profit contribution. Whereas, most other departments directly impact sales and hence money influx. Moreover, a company's HR dept is relatively smaller than any operational dept, and hence they naturally require less people in HR.

3. The MBA degree itself lacks credibility nowadays. Many industry experts feel, and even I agree, that there are so many MBA colleges and there is a general doubt on the employability of many MBA students.

4. What to do in this case is aligning urself with the industry. No matter which semester ur in, start doing internships with companies. It will serve 2 purposes- u will get to see HR function live, although from a grass route level; and u willl get to network. These are my- if flawed- opinions. Think about it.

How one gains experience unless one makes a beginning somewhere . All experienced must be freshers at one time. Therefore dispel the impression that freshers can't find a job and develop a positive way of looking at things. Aditya has given you some useful tips.Here are some more to make yourself employable :

1) Since you are pursuing MBA now, focus only on grasping all HR concepts thoroughly rather than worrying about future now.

2) Make a group of enthusiastic students and discuss issues among yourself. There may be some who come to college to have a degree only.Avoid them.

3)Make best of the library facility offered by your college.

4) Participate in intercollegiate quiz programmers/debates on management irrespective whether you win them or not since it makes you in touch with subject and contemporary developments in HR.

5)Participate in seminars, taking active part in them.There may be questions on this in the interview.

6)Do the project work by yourself instead of delegating it to some other team member since you may be asked probing question son the projects/assignments you have undertaken.

7)Make best of your summer internship to make it a real learning experience instead of attending it as a ritual.

8)Develop networking with professionals from industry who visit you as faculty or attend seminars.This may help you in future.

if you add your energy to your knowledge and make them visible in the interviews or campus placements, I have little doubt as to why the interview panel does not take notice of ?
