is it compulsory to maintain Attendance muster book even though the Biometric machine is there to capture Attendance ?

Hi, I would suggest you to continue to maintain both manual attendance and Biometric attendance. Manual attendance is more valid than biometric access system. In case of any dispute regarding in or out time both can be verified. @ Biometric if you are following only access card option there are chances of employees manipulating the process. If you are using fingerprint option then that would be fine.

If you want to maintain only Biometric attendance then better obtain prior approval from concerned Labour Officials.

Even if you maintain bio-metric attendance system you should have the adequate provisions to convert into a record of attendance either in electronic form/mode and or hard copy thereof and should be made available as and when the Inspector either inspect in person or records called for in his office. This is a statutory requirement. And you are aware unless this data is available to HR it is not possible either to substantiate matter in case of disputes arising and/or filling up statutory Half yearly & Annual Returns, maintenance of Form-T other registers etc.
