Currently I am in the notice period, the company notice period is 90 days which I am serving

Out of all deliverables, I am not able to complete one project whose code got deleted mistakenly at the end under tremendous pressure put on me

Now hr and senior team members saying either you complete it or else we will not give you relieving letter

we will release you on 90 days notice period but we will not give you relieving letter

this is what HR told me

Just 1 project which is going on for a long, they decided to hold my deliverables

During the last 3 months, I have been continuously harassed, abused, and mentally pressurized to complete it

for which I did complaint to senior members and even hr. In the end, they just said sorry and end of the topic

It's just they want to set to example out of me by threatening me that they won't give relieving letter as my deliverables are not done. Neither they wanna terminate me but they wanna hold my relieving letter

I have been abused by the telling me a lot of bad words and threats continuously in my notice period

what are my options now?

Is it legal for a company to hold relieving letter in such a situation due to just 1 project deliverable not done due to code deletion mistakenly?

rest all are done

Company can not held relieving letter, if you are serving full notice as per the termination clause mentioned in your appointment letter.
You can reach Directors for explaining the situation.
If you have any document proof of getting verbally abused then please produce them in front of management.

Work was removed mistakenly before committing under so much pressure, threats, abuse, mental harassment, they put on me.
What are my options if company is denying ?
Still few days left in my notice period to complete

What the company is doing is simple harassment.

When an employee has given notice to exit, company should scale down work being done thorugh him so as to reduce company work exposure to an exiting employee and place some one to take over and continue the work in seamless manner.

Raise the level of interaction on the issue of last project with Directors or GM level and press for exit with due papers.

One may question how you deleted the work-error or hurry etc-why you didnt keep back up etc.But fact is under pressure of deadlines, mistakes do happen.

Explain the facts in writing and offer your knowhow and guidance for completion of project by another employee within your notice period.

Declining relief papers is indeed wrong and show poor HR practises. What is being done to you will happen to others, including the same HR person who is being asked to pressurise you.

Solution lies in bringing higher management into picture.

In this case, explain the entire condition to your prospective employer in writing that your current employer is not ready to give you the relieving letter.
It will be better to clear your state in this matter to avoid any post joining consequences.
