Hi All,
Generally in companies they give 9 public holidays, but in 2008 most of the festivals are falling on weekdays. so 12 days of leave should be declared. In this case mainly in IT companies( Small & Middle sized) the billing rate will have an impact. so what should be done...kindly share your valuable suggestions..

Hi dear,
As public holidays are falling on weekdays nothin can be done but if possible make them aware of this as this may affect project completion.
Inform this to the heads and suboridnates and see what they say.
Regards.

In our company the policy says 10 declared holidays. Out of the 10, 2 are kept for declaring during emergency situations like strikes and the rest 8 are given. National holidays are compulsarily given and one holiday for each religious festival is given. A meeting of all the project managers and HR is called to decifde on the same and it is decided on majority basis.

Apart from the National Holidays like Republic & Independence Day, allow say 7 holidays on festival days, the days to be opted for by individual employees at the beginning of the calendar year. This way, each employee will get a holiday on the days he chooses, and the company can continue to work on such days, albeit with fewer employees.

Hi Kavitha:
Your company would have intimated the Labour Inspector concerned the particulars of festival holidays to be observed as a regular measure. The Labour Inspector would have approved it. His approval once obtained should be followed without deviation.

Dear Kavita,
You can still stick to your 9 day holidays scedule. You can declare five days as official holidays ( only important festivals) and four days as optional holidays. Prepare list of optional holidays that any person can chosse and once those four days are exhausted no more optional holidays can be taken.

hi kavitha,
the holiday list for 2008 is been declared in the Hindu during november 2nd week , in my company we are declaring 10 days of holiday which lies in weekdays and 2 days lies in weekend total of 12 days.. it depends on the company which calendar do they follow. as in US. they don't have leave for new year but we indian do.. so it depends on the company and the management. 5 days is a must leave which is - independence day, republic day, gandhi jayanthi, pongal and diwali.. rest its upto the management to declare leave or not...
Cheers
