One of my friends joined a company a few months back. She had resigned from there since she was continuously harrassed through mails and also verbally by her reporting manager who unfortunately is the CEO of the company. After resigning from there she applied in another company. But later she learned from that company that they received negative feedback from her last company and therefore they are rejecting her offer. Please advise on how to deal with this situation.

Hi Shajipriya,
In my opinion the reason for quitting from the previous company should genuinely put up in the interview. Likewise as
With lot of career hope & prospects i joined the company and was putting all my efforts to do my job efficiently & effectively, But i was treated by my reporting boss very rudely & disrespectfully all the time. Hence it made me to take this hard decision to resign and look for better company & prospects.
Moreover there is no point in going back to the present offer. Better future interviews be open in discussing, which will fetch you good opportunity. All the best.

Hi Chandana
Thanks for your advise. Really appreciate it.
To add to the same, if this has happened once then there is much chance that they would give negative feedback about her to every company she approach for a job. That will affect her career as well. So how can we deal with it?

Dear Priya,
This is always better to be open and discuss only truth at the time of interview. Thus you may clearly inform your new organisation where you may gave interview about the previous job scenario. Also, It is been suggested that, if possible and if you have work for very few months then you may exclude this experience from your CV.

Hi Priya

It is really disappointing that your last company are giving negative feedback about your work. Surely you can't effort to lose the upcoming opportunities because of it. I have two advice for you based on my previous experience with different candidates. Some faced the similar situations, you can use it :-

- You should clearly mention the reason of leaving your previous company adding to it, you can give reference details of other colleague who understands you and worked with you. If someone really wants to take you then it won't effect them.

- You can approach your HR Manager and taking her/him in confident if you have good repo. So that you can directly share their reference details. They know how to handle the situation.

- If it not your first company then you can deny to give reference details of direct reporting details of previous company details. Not all companies are interested in reference feedback. Because you left them because one party is not happy.Try not to give your CEO details as reference.

There's a saying -

"People Leave Managers, Not Companies"

Have faith in yourself.. All the Best for future job searching..

Thanks a lot to everyone for your valuable advice. I have shared the details with my friend. She seems to have attained good confidence after reading the same.
But she has asked that if this happens again then should she do something legally against the CEO?

Priya
