Write to HR attaching the emails (with confirmation and offer letter) and stating your problem. Do remember to mention your date of joining. Also attach if you have emails exchanged during the period you worked in the company (Remember to forward all those emails from the company email id to your gmail id etc to protect yourself if the HR deletes all your emails).
Write to the HR that you have received such a call. Was it serious? Is it the company process that they ask their employees to leave without pay or else force-resign? Ask her to confirm by when will the dues be cleared.
If you have emails exchanged through company email id etc, they will not be able to deny that you were an employee (which they perhaps are not able to do already if they are asking you to resign - only an employee can resign).
If you resign, keep an acknowledged copy with you - that will be a proof you were the employee. Joining letter etc wouldn't matter much.

Hi Garry,
Since you got a mail from them asking you to resign itself indicates that they have virtually taken on roles. BUT basically what will gain of fighting against a company for just 20 days of your presence. Also the conditions of appointment is not known. normally there is a probation period of 6 months before which you cannot take any legal action. your 20 days does not carry any recognition/weightage anywhere. Best is to resign and take full month pay and walk off. The pay slip and your copy of Resignation letter is just on reocrds that you worked there. That's it.
