Hello everyone..
I am in a trouble. I resigned from HCL and is serving the 3 months notice period now. I will complete the 3 months notice on 15 Apr. But now my manager wants to assign me a task which I wont be able to finish before 15 Apr. He says I have to finish this before 15 Apr otherwise he will increase the notice period by one more month. He is not ready to talk, says talk to me after the result.
I find this unproffessional and unethical. As far as I know it is not possible for him to do this, as I am serving the whole 3 months notice period. Please advice on how should I tackle the issue.

You have to check out your appointment order.
What does it say about notice period extension??
You can approach the higher ups of your manager.
The actions of the manager appear to be incorrect and you need to tackle it in mature manner and calmly.
The manager cannot force you to stay beyond notice period and giving of task which extends notice period is legally incorrect.

Notice period cannot be extended as and when the Manager likes. Have you already received the acknowledgement / acceptance of your resignation letter and also the date of relieving ? In that case, it cannot be modified. You can approach the HR Department if your Manager had given the assignment through e-mail. If it is verbal, you can always challenge him in front of HR Manager. He is trying to spite you. Dont take any rash decisions. Keep cool, calm and go ahead with the assiinment. Whether or not you complete it is immaterial. Since knowingly he has given the task to you, it is his responsibility and he should have used his common sense to give such an assignment to you or not.
