Dear All,
I am an MBA graduate in HR specialization and I am having experience in Recruitment and Generalist Profile, total 2.5 years of experience. Presently i am working in a small & medium scale industry as Sr. Executive - HR, but here i do not have much responsibilities and there is no opportunity to learn new things and for growth...... Still its a learning stage for me and gaining knowledge in other areas of HR is more important. From past 2 months i am working in this company. I want to work in a company where i can learn new things, grow myself, work hard, with good pay.
Please please suggest me. What can I do ? Whether to look for a change or what ??
I will be waiting for your valuable reply. Please suggest me.....
I request all to give their valuable suggestion...
Thanks,
Shilpa

Dear Shilpa
Such problems are common among freshers; so you need not feel unduly stressful about it.
You have 2.5 years experience and you joined this company just 2 months back. Either your choices were limited or you did not research much about this company. Anyway; you can always keep learning at this phase of your career; and learning need not be restricted just to the confines of your job assignment.
You can also keep a look out on better opportunities in future.
Warm regards.

Dear Raj Kumar,
Thank you for your valuable reply. Actually my previous company was good and even my profile was good but I was badly treated by my reporting manager, lot of politics, partiality, that's the reason I just wanted to get out from there and i was very much depressed. Same time I had given an interview in this company and got a job, they told like i am the only one HR to take care of everything so i thought i can learn lot many things here and joined.
As i worked in a big company previously where 800 employees were there and here 60 employees are there. There are lots of difference between this and my previous company. Finding difficulty to adjust in the beginning, if i come up with new ideas, i don not get proper support from the management.
So i was worried about my career....
As you said i am looking for change meanwhile i am learning whatever i can learn here. I have got enough time so just making use of it.

Dear Raj Kumar,

I have one more query. In this company there so many strict rules have been followed. This company has been registered under The Karnataka Shops and Commercial Establishment Act, 1961. They do not allow the mobile phones inside the office premises and employees are supposed to leave their phones at reception before entering the office and its a token system here , token will be given and during lunch break they can use their mobiles after that again they have to submit their mobiles at the reception. After office hours they will collect their mobile.

Like this so many strict rules are being followed here. All employees are supposed work for 9.30 hrs in day and except lunch break for 30 mins not even single break will be given, 6 working days in a week.

If work is more they have to stretch their work and on Sunday also the will come and work and no OT will be paid and they cant take comp off leave also. If they take leave salary will be deducted and employees are not supposed to take any leaves either in probationary or after confirmation, if they take any leave salary will be deducted for the same. According to act employees are eligible 1 day leave for every 20 days in case of adult and 1 day for 15 days in case of young person. They are making everyone to work for 54 hrs in a week which is against law but few employee working more than 54 hrs in a week.

When i joined i had an meeting with all the employees and all have complaint about all these and i sent a detailed mail to my CEO about all these but no use and for them salary is also not paid on time. Management getting work done from the employees with less wages. I felt bad looking at employee's situation here, so what i can do being an HR here, sometimes i feel for namesake am HR here.

Please suggest me on this......

Dear Shilpa,
Let us see what havebeen pointed out and legality of the points.
1. Cell Phones-- This prac of not allowing personal cell phones at work place is followed in number of Co. and is legal. But reception should contact employee in case there is emergency during working hrs
2.Leave-- Leave and Holidays should be as per the relevant State Acts and rules. You certainlyshould apprise the management.
3.Comp Off---Com off is to be given as per rules. Management can be apprised.
4.Working Hrs---Your Co is making employees more the stipulates 48 hrs a week. OT is applicable.
I suggest that you may apprise your management that in case of any inspection by concerned Lab office, there will be legal implications .Be also prepared for backlash on you from management as I am sure they know where all they are flouting rules.
Best wishes.

Dear Suresh,
Thank you so much for your valuable suggestion and I will approach the management about all these.
And one more question, is OT mandatory or instead of that can they take comp off leave, because in the beginning they were giving OT but now they have stopped, but law says OT should be given.

Dear Shilpa,
Comp off is when an employee works on an off day. This usually is a full day working and he gets Comp off in lieu .
OT is for few hrs and payment is at "double the rate".
Best Wishes.

Dear Shilpa

Its nice to see you being open to suggestions.

You are unhappy when you compare your last co. with this one. Had you sought help earlier, you might have got timely help to endure the atmosphere there. But now its history and instead of feeling bad, just focus on the learning that you came across. Its rightly said - people don't leave companies, they leave their bosses.

About your present co. you will have to ENDURE and accept the situation. One can understand the limitations of a 60-head count co. However, remember that where there is more darkness, even a small light looks bright !!

So you already know the problems; now go ahead trying to solve a few one-by-one with patience and perseverance. Be ready to accept resistance and opposition. But do remember, even a small well-thought improvement will matter a lot. Being a sole HR also has positive aspects; be visible on the scene; try to solve as many issues as you can. after you become familiar and acceptable to all; you can try out your initiatives pertaining to change management.

Warm regards.
