For a while now, the following questions have been dancing around in my mind. I am very interested in knowing your thoughts and opinions :
Working hours

1. what do you think should be the working hours per day/per week/quarter/ year in India.
2. How dependent should these be on the job description.
3. Should the working hours vary based on location (metro/city/town etc.).

1. How many paid leaves should be there for employees.
2. Should these paid leaves vary based on the job description

Ans: Q1. Working hours generally in India is 9/8 hours depends on the company you work for, for process, manufacturing, pharma companies its 8 hours shift runs on 24* 7 basis, for corporate general shift/day shit which is 9 hours, 8 hours actually for and remaining one hour is for lunch, tea breaks
Ans : Q2 Yes it varies from job to job
Ans : Q3 Actually its 8-9 hours if you work extra work hours you will get paid called OT Over time (you will get double of your salary), again understanding between you and company management.
Working Days

1. In corporate world its called EL's Earning leaves (PL), for every month you work -- there will be one paid leave will be given to you.
2. Yes it varies for Contract/Full time employees
3. Based on the type of the job

Thank you very much for the reply. I was honestly expecting many more replies, as this seems to be a very interesting topic.
We regularly implement laws and policies, and in many cases (like the 8 hour working day), know its history of origin. The question is whether they are still relevant today.
Has anyone experimented on this with shorter working days monitoring its effect on productivity. What about paid leaves uniformity across the layers of the organization.
While understanding legal limitations, the curiosity is regarding experimentation, especially since differentiation is important.
