Hi Salma:
Training Needs Identification (TNI) or Training Needs Analysis (TNA), are the basis on which the Training Stratergy and plan is decided on.
They are used interchangeably, however there is a slight different. As the words suggests, Identification only helps you pick the areas of training needed, where as Analysis helps you understand the deeper hows and whys.
There are a variety of methods that may be used for the same viz.
1. Previous data analysis (Company performance, PMS data etc.)
2. Trend Analysis (for for projected growth and proactive training requirements for the upcoming expansion)
3. First hand research through questionnaires and interviews.
4. Shadowing employees in their work and identifying gaps.
And there are many more such methods.
Hope this helps. Do let me know if you need any further information or assistance with regards to the same.
