If you go through the provisions of the Factories Act you will find that section 51 provides for weekly hours, section 54 provides for daily hours and section 55 provides of intervals for rest and section 56 provides for spreadover. Spreadover is the time span between the time a worker punches his card/swipes his card till he leaves the factory at the end of the shift. This cannot exceed ten and half hours including the intervals for rest. Therefore, intervals for rest is not included in the working hours. The working hours prescribed under section 54 and the intervals for rest prescribed under section 55 put together is called the spreadovere and the spreadover cannot exceed ten and half hours. Lunch hour is to be regarded as interval for rest.
