I have received my release letter on my last working day. It states that I "shall" stand released at the close of offc hours as on my last working day. Does the word "shall" here mean that I have not been released yet or does it mean that I will be released after the date mentioned? The presence of the word "shall" is casting some doubts for me.

Since you received your releasing letter before your actual release (which took place LATER in the day); at the TIME of issuing and signing the letter by appropriate authority; you had not been ACTUALLY RELEASED; which took place a few hours later.
Hence the use of the phrase "shall" is appropriate and is customary under such situation.
In other words; you stand RELEASED at the end of the working hours on the day you last attended office.

I have but one more question but its relating to charge handover. Before getting my release letter, I have handed over the list of pending tasks / charge handover statement (signed by me) to my reporting authority but I did not get any acknowledgement or received copy of the same. I have a photocopy of it but it was not signed by my reporting authority. Your advice/opinon please?
