We are working in Shops & establishments act and Industrial employment standing orders act is applicable to us. Since this year 15th of August is falling on Sunday our weekly holiday. Whether we should declare Holiday on monday in adition to Sunday or it is not necessary. Please suggest.

There is no legal obligation to give compensatory holiday when a national holiday falls on Sunday. This is because, there are number of establishments which have different weekly off days other than Sunday. At the same time if the employer is willing, then an additional festival holiday can be given for the year in which public holidays come on Sunday.
