Hi all,

Can any one suggest whether MBA qualification is of utmost important to become a HR professional? If so, in which way the degree is helping?

Nowadays there is a perception to so many large IT organizations that only the candidates from very reputed institutions like IIM, Symbiosis and the candidates those who have completed their MBAs through regular are of more valuable and knowledgeable than the candidates those who have not undergone any Specialized courses in Human resource and / or the candidates those who have completed their MBA through correspondence. Is it a real fact?

I have attended two to three conferences and found that so many senior HR executives and Managers are not compulsorily from HR specialized but doing really good. Even in a reputed organization i found that the senior manager of HR is not from HR back ground but from operations background with engineering Graduate.

THEN HOW MBA-HR IS VALUABLE NOW? WHAT IS THE EXACT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BOTH THESE KINDS OF CANDIDATES? CAN ANY ONE THROW SOME OF YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS WHICH WILL REALLY HELPFUL TO RECRUIT RIGHT TALENT IN HR DEPARTMENT?

Thanks in Advance,

Rathi.

Hi,
It is a general belief that a qualified person is supposed to be more knowledgable in the subject than an unqualified person. Accordingly from the stage of advertisement to appointment, qualified persons like an MBA have an edge over the non MBA persons.
Once you are on the job, your skills and effectiveness are observed and you get your placement in due course of time. It is for this reason, many persons who are working in the organzation but have no formal qualifications, move in to other positions, beacuase of their aptitude, skill or efficiency. This stage comes after you have worked in a company for some years and your work has been seen by persons who are decision makers.
To understand it in simple words, MBA in HR for a new comer is like a passport to travel, and knowledge of work, skill and competence is like a visa for acceptability in a profession.
