Dear all,
I am a student specializing in HR. I am doing a project on competency mapping in the corporate office of a popular textile company in my place. Few of the employees refuse to cooperate with me in filling the questionnaires. They feel that my project will affect their job. Today morning all of a sudden few employees started to shout at me for no reason. I was humble and I tried my best to convince them. But they were not ready to listen. I was completely broke and did not know wat to do. to But now I think I should have handled the situation better. As this was my first experience I don’t have any idea about how I should have carried it:?: Can anybody tell me wat I should ve done or share your experiences about how you handled such problems...
Thank you

Have a good day !!

dear
this is your project and in this situation there can be unrest in factory.till the time they will not recognise you ,they will not co operate with you.you are new to that organisation.you take help of HR for questionarie .never write a name on questionarie.
no one should be able to know ,who has fill up this questionarie ,donot ask name from workers.
if you will idetify them than either they will not give you correct information or
they will oppose it because they fear about their job.

Hey Janani,
To add upto Mr. Malik, its the way you put forward your questions, ensure that the language that you use are participant friendly, you will never get a direct response from any employee, even if you are a HR within the company it is difficult for you to get the response.
Please do remember to remove the name and personal details section from the questionnaire, also you can take help from the managers in the organization to get ur work done..

Thankyou for the suggestions sir..
Though the qustionnaire is confidential i ve found that they discuss it with the fellow employees (i am doing 180 degree assessment i.e superior, subord, and peer or end users) while filling it... And most of them fill it just for the heck of doing it and not by heart... is there any possibility to improve the efficiency of my project....
Have a good day...

Janani,
Please drop me a private message. I will give you email ID and if you can send me the questionnaire then I can advise you.
Please see my posts on Research Methodology at CiteHR. Is there a covering letter to the questionnaire which is endorsed by management? In the days of recession any such study will evoke emotions.

Dear Janani,
Please explain about your project to them & nothing to be taken in writting with them, you only ask some question & fill it yourself, this is a kind of project and you have fill all the entries,no body is going to ask about the filling of entries by you or by employee.
Let me know the textile unit name,i had been to most of the textiles unit,i shall do some help for your project and i have a soft touch with all biggest textiles manufacturere & exports houses.
anyway, today is Sunday, why r u working on this day,you should take rest atleast for one day in a week,do consume some times for your planning too.
Best Regards
Sajid

the management and the HR department support me a lot .. they want to get this proj done.. but i can see obvious difference when i approach the employees directly and when some other senior person accompanies me.. they look at me like an alien travelled all the way only to put them in trouble..i dont want to complicate things by taking it to the heads.. i think i should try to explain the staff more clearly abt the proj and its importance..
Note: One of the officials kno that i am posting in this forum and i am strictly told not to reveal the name of the company

hey janani...urs is not a peculiar situation...any kind of performance assessments are always looked at sceptically by employees...and textiles being a traditional sector... such assessments will be new to them...
Usually in such situations you have to try getting the support of the opinion makers in the group. (Union leaders, informal leaders etc.) explain the objective of the assessment to them...get their buy-in..support from the HR is not gonna help because HR represents the management in any company...
