What are the exact formulations of an appointment letter?
Are there any basic ingredients, which should be incorporated in an appointment letter?
Note: I have seen single page, 2-3 page and 10-12 page appointment letters

Hi!
Offer letter only contains the position you are selected for, the date you would have to join in and the relevent documents required by the company.
Where the appointment letter contains all the terms and conditions of the company, it could be about the work place, timings, increments or any legal issues. In short its a overview abt the companys terms for appointing you to that particular post.

The basic difference between offer letter and appointment letter is that the former is a token of acceptance by the prospective candidate whereas the later is a sort of agreement between the candidate and the company by which bioth reach a mutual understanding. The candidate comes under a no. of terms and conditions of service prevalent in the company.
Usually an appointment letter consists of the following items
1. Commencement
2. Salary & Perquisites
3. Posting
4. Reporting
5. Service condition
6. Additional work/ transfer
7. Notice period or salary in liue of Notice
8. Superannuation
9. Secrecy
10. Jurisdiction
11. Information/ declaration
