Dear All,
I just started my career one year ago. So far I am handling recruitment mostly. Now, I got an offer for a better position and pay in recruitment, opting which may make me a specialist in recruitment.
Now, I am in a fix; whether to take this tempting offer and become a specialist in a single function or shall I still continue in my current organisation and demand for a role change into either payroll or compliance which means almost the same position and nominal increment.
Kindly suggest me what I should opt; whether generalist-HR or specialist-HR?
Request not just a view but advice.

Thank you very much.
Please also clarify if I grow as a specialist, will I be given the HR head kind of a role/can I handle such a role?
What I mean is; if I opt for a specialist, may be I am ceiling my career growth upto a limit and can never be the lead HR.
Kindly clarify.

If i were at your place, i would not take that opportunity..once u get into a recruitments profile, there is not much of scope of returning, you might face problem in changing job also (which im sure, u wont stick to this company {recruitment profile one} till eternity)....because there is more scope of HR Generalist than core recruitments..i've rarely come around such openings..but there is no such dearth of HR Generalist vacancies

Recruitments; no matter how lucrative it may be, but being an exp person i can tell u that it will be quite monotonous..starting from 9 to 5-6pm..all you'll do would be recruitments, recruitments, recruitments...this is going to be so boring..ok, u may have the flair for it and you may like it..but i dont think its so great..

hr generalist wins hands down man..you can get better/lucrative offers in generalist profile also after sometime..if u think u can drink/eat/sleep recruitments..then go for it! if you are a multi-tasking person and want to learn and get exposed to various other functions then stick around...rest, its ur decision..but i wouldnt go4it, had i been in ur place :-D

All the Best!!

Thank you very much Vineeta & Gautam
As said, I am already feeling monotonous abt recruitment. Now, my boss wants me to continue in recruitment for some more (indefenite)time before a role change.
My current industry is retail. I proved against all odds in my current role in terms of timely filling, cost cutting and good relations with one and all in the organisatin. No body stuck to this role for more than 4-6 months prior to me or culd manage any success. Now my boss' intention to keep me stuck to recruitment is demotivating me and I can find a slump in my passion towards the orgn and job.
I wuld like to know what should be an ideal shift in terms of industry n role for me. My core competencies are communication, presentation, creative thinking, positive attitude and "can do" spirit.

Hi Aakrit, If u ve proved in retailing and ur assessment of ur competencies is accurate, u may consider Employee Relations/Recruitment. Niharika

Since its only one year that you have compleated here in the present Company, My Suggestion is be there with the present Company for some more time- as your maanger is asking you. After 6 months and so you can ask for role change, if does not given anyother option you can look out. Frequent job jumps are not good for anybody's profile.
