Dear Anil Chaturvedi,

The following is the analysis of your situation:

Continuing in the Same Company: - It will benefit you in adding the experience of what you are doing. You know the company culture well. However, since you will continue in the same company, other than the regular annual increment, you will not get any monetary benefit. However, you have not mentioned, how many years you have been working in the current company, the kind of culture the current company has, whether you will be involved in the settlement with the union in the near future etc.

Joining a new Company: - The primary benefit is the salary hike of 20% In these times of inflation, it will help you in maintaining the same lifestyle and it will help you in asking for a further salary hike when you start looking for a new job.

However, you need to check the culture of the company, the type of boss you will have, What kind of welfare activities will you do, what something new you will learn in the new job etc. On the flip side, you will have to work with the same designation. If the new company had offered you a higher designation, it would have served a better purpose of change of jobs.

Final comments: - Find out about the culture of the company. If it is good, then go ahead and join. However, you must become a manager in the next 2-3 years. Otherwise, it will create problems for you in future. If there is no possibility of your promotion, then start looking for a change after two years. Secondly, if you get an opportunity to come back to your original job profile in the new company, then switch over.

All the best!

Dear Anil Kumar Chaturvedi,

There is a mismatch between your first and the second post. Your first query was on whether to join or not and the second query is on what will happen if I don't join a company in spite of accepting an offer letter.

A job candidate is expected to be thoughtful enough before acceptance of the job offer. In the second post, you have written, "i have decided that not to join due to profile matched with my current profile". What you have written does not convey your actual reasons for declining to a job offer.

Anyway, at least HR professionals are expected to be cautious before acceptance of the job offer. This is because they know how the HR professionals are left in the lurch when the candidates ditch the job offer. They should do proper research on the company and then they should make a decision.

Finding a flaw after the acceptance of the job offer shows the cavalier attitude of the candidate and with this attitude, nobody succeeds.

Thanks,

Dinesh Divekar
