Hi All...
I want to know what are the future prospects for a person with MBA (HR) qualification, in an institute? The prospects can be from the angle of working either in Teaching line or in Administration / HRD or as a Training & Placement Officer.
Your views on the above topics are solicited.

Hello Vishal,

The agonies and ecstasies of a HR person in an institute or higher learning is as follows:

ECSTASIES:

1. Improves domain knowledge

2. Gain command on subject of HR

3. Can apply HR techniques in the college/university/institute like Training, Development Activities, Placement Work, Design of appraisal formats for teaching and non-teaching staff, conduct job analysis and prepare competency based job descriptions.

4. more scope for researc

AGONIES:

1. more teaching experience, the probability of getting a good job in HR in corporates diminishes.

2. Corporates become skeptical of ur ability as an effective HR manager because the experience/domain knowledge u possess is theoretical.

3. Though HR concepts are applied at teaching too, the corporates feel that corporate culture is more cut throat and academics is much softer. though this is a misnomer, it is deeply fixed in the minds of corporate recruiters.

4. It calls for lot of effort/struggle on the part of the candidate to shift to corporates with ample teaching experience.

5. People say that HR teachers can settle as trainers but that is not all that easy as corporate experiences resurfaces and eats away the enthusiasm of the candidate.
