key process areas (KPA)
A maturity level is defined by the key process areas (KPA) that are considered important to achieve that level of process maturity. Such a definition allows project managers to focus on the key process areas as a way to identify areas that need to be addressed to improve their project's capability. Each key process area identifies a cluster of related activities that, when performed collectively, achieve a set of goals considered important for enhancing process capability.
The Key Results Areas (KRAs)
These are groups responsible for the outcomes, measurables, or deliverables of the organization. Although some KRAs have subcommittees contained within, all play a critical part in setting and reaching the organization’s goals each year. Each KRA has representation from each specialty group and committee, so that all interests are represented and information flows back and forth among all of the groups.
KRA 1 - Membership Growth
Membership is responsible for assessing member needs and opinions, developing member services and benefits, critiquing new programs and services, and developing ways to recruit new members and retain existing members.
KRA 2 - Products & Services
The products and services group’s goal is to provide the green industry with the most up-to-date offerings available in the areas of education, publications, distance learning, networking opportunities, and industry recognition. Through organized surveying, benchmarking, and analysis, we assess member satisfaction so that we can learn from our members what is needed in our spectrum of offerings.
KRA 3 - Certification
The Certification Council is an 11-member group that oversees all aspects of PLANET's certification programs. Members are appointed for three-year terms and chair a committee that focuses on one specific aspect of certification. The Council exists to promote the overall growth and creditability of the interior and exterior green industry, to provide professional recognition to competent individuals engaged in green industry professions, and to stimulate the worldwide acceptance of the interior and exterior green industry profession through the certification of its practitioners.
KRA 4 - Industry Development/Safety
Industry Development encompasses several areas of progress and advancement, including employee recruiting, PLANET’s Student Career Days event, and safety and risk management. The group strives to advance the perception of the industry in service providers, academia, students/potential employees, and service providers themselves.
KRA 5 - Marketing
Marketing coordinates all of PLANET's marketing efforts including: brand identity, creative and message strategy, advertising efforts and public relations. The marketing and communications group supports all other KRAs and committees and strives to help them make their goals.
KRA 6 - Business Development
The Business Development group develops closer working relationships among PLANET contractor members and supplier members to the general benefit of the association and the industry. The group forms valuable business relationships and promotes the comprehensive opportunities for industry partners to contribute and/or sponsor PLANET initiatives.
KRA 7 - Leadership and Staff Development
Leadership Development is focused on initiatives to measure and improve staff and leadership satisfaction. In addition, it seeks to provide a viable pipeline of future leaders for the organization.
KRA 8 - GIE
The GIE group is responsible for coordinating, planning, and implementing the Green Industry Expo (GIC/GIE), which is held in conjunction with the Green Industry Conference annually.
KRA 9 - Government Affairs
Government Affairs addresses activity at the federal, state, and local levels of government to ensure the laws and regulations by which landscape and lawn care professionals must abide are reasonable and responsible and do not unduly burden their member companies. PLANET represents the professional lawn and landscape industry before the U.S. Congress and federal agencies, such as the EPA, Department of Labor, Department of Transportation, Citizen and Immigration Services, and the Federal Trade Commission. PLANET monitors state legislation and updates its members on pertinent legislation. PLANET also develops legislative strategies, talking points, and issue position papers, and conducts face-to-face lobbying when requested. Primary issues that the committee addresses include pesticides, fertilizers, water, and immigration.
