Hi,
I have been working in my present company for close to 4 years now. I was based out of Bangalore initially but was asked to relocate to our Mumbai office. After close to 2 years of working at the Mumbai office, i have resigned my job and am looking to move back to Bangalore which is my base.
The company had paid my relocation expenses to Mumbai. Would i be entitled for the reimbursement of my relocation expenses back to Bangalore - now that i have resigned ?
Thanks
Sanjay

Yes - but in this case i was working in their Bangalore office and they asked me to relocate to Mumbai. Its not that i joined the company in Mumbai. So doesn't it make sense for them to pay my return as well ?
Thanks

Even in that case. Relocation bonus is not to be counter paid. Why don’t you check out with payroll department. Regards, Dixita

Why did you agreed to join their Mumbai Office? You should have resigned and should have explored career opportunities in Bangalore Only. Does your company also pay to you, whenever you visit your family in Bangalore? Is your company asking you to resign or you are resigning your own?
It was your decision to move to their mumbai office. They requested you...but never forced you.
It is your decision to resign.

To the best of my knowledge companies don't reimburse relocation expenses if you resign.
There are organisations, however, who do bear relocation expenses for senior executives on their retirement, if their retirement home is other than the last place of employment. This is a part of the benefits they are entitled to.

Relocation bonus is never returned. However, few companies do keep a clause that "if you leave the compan within 1 year of your service then it might be taken back from you on the prorata basis i.e. if you have recived a joining bonus of Rs. 24000/- and you resign in 7 months time period then you will have to return Rs. 10000/- to the company."
