Dear Seniors,
I am presently workingas Executive HR in a glass manufecturing industry. I have undergone B.Ed(Regular) degree and then took up teaching as career for around 01 year I was a teacher. I am showing B.Ed qualification in my resume. I have PG diploma in HR and preently pursuing MBA (HR) through distance mode. Please advice me should I show B.Ed degree in my resume and also experience as teacher.
Please guide me.

Dear pankaj_po,
Yes u can show your B.Ed degree in your academic qualification and PG and MBA in professional qualification. But in terms of relevant experince in HR , your professional qualification would be considered and not teaching job.Teaching experience could be considered in TOTAL EXPERINCE, but not in RELEVANT EXPERINCE.

Dear Katyana,
Thanks for prompt reply. I have one more doubt in this regard, I think B.Ed is also considered a professional degree course so why it should not be shown under the profesional qualification. Also please suggest me if teaching experience gained in a school or college matches with the Training & Development (under the HR dept) of the industries. I have a job opening where they are looking for the candidate mainly for Training and Development.

Dear pankaj_po,
The term professional degree is used for degrees of MEDICINE, MANAGEMENT AND ENGINEERING.U have mentioned that u r pursuing MBA , so it comes in professional degree. Teaching experience is considered to be relevant in academic field and not in HR field.
Teaching experince gained in school and college would not be considered relevant in TRAINING AND Development. If u want to specialize in T & D , go for ISTD course.

Thanks for enlightening me in really very important matter. Now I am very much cleared about this issue. Kindly tell something more about ISTD course I am really interested to make career mainly in Training and Development. Also please suggest whether pursuing LLB at this juncture would also be a better option.

Dear Katyana,
I browse through the website of ISTD, the procedure for this course has already been started last date is 31st May 08 for applying. I am in a fix what to do ?? should I go for LLB having admission in Aug 08 or to join ISTD. Please advice me. I am working here at Roorkee in Uttarakhand state, previously there were no industries here but now due to some tax benefits lots of industries are coming up, mainly manufecturing industries having minor units here (few big companies are also present). I do'nt know whether ISTD will be useful for or not in the long run but doing LLB I think will be a big advantage.
Kindly guide me. I think took so much of your time.

Dear Pankaj, I would recommend to go for LLB as this degree will give you an additional advantage with MBA. U r most welcome for your career counselling as i take sessions on these.

Pankaj Hi,
I have done my B.Ed too.This in a way helps understand certain aspects of Teaching.However, when it comes to Training (I would personally prefer calling this function as Facilitating...) there are some basic , significant differences:
1) In the case of Adult learning the strategy should be more in tune with discussions, interactive, role plays etc
2) Here the facilitator should be able to relate the activity to the need/Objective of the program
So, if you ask me B.Ed does not directly enhance Soft skills training however it helps alleviate certain aspects like each one may perceive or understand things differently etc.

Dear Sujata,
Thanks for your response. NOw I can make out the difference between B.Ed and ISTD, here in corporate we are dealing with matured and adult participants and whereas in schools we deal with children having a prescribed curriculum to be taught to them. I think only some aspects of B.Ed course cold be useful in training in HR like the Technology of teaching. Any light on this you are most welcome.

Hi Pankaj, That is why we include more of role plays / discussions. I find my CPBA certification has helped me to understand how & why certain individuals behave the way they do... And more importantly each individual takes a action due the the value system they have whether they are aware of it or not.
