Dear Jithin,

Please give us little more information about the Performance Appraisal (PA) process in your company. How it is handled, on what parameters the performance is measured, whether chance of self-appraisal is given etc.

The most important point is whether the marks awarded by manager are disclosed during the appraisal. If employees knows the marks then he/she should have fair idea of how much increment he/she can expect.

If you have well-designed Performance Management System (PMS) in your company, then this problem does not arise at all. In this case points are 'earned" by junior and manager only validates the score calculated by the junior.

If you wish to know more about PMS then you may click here to go through the reply of my past post.

Thanks,

Dear Dinesh,
We use to mention the amount and feedback like how it was calculated and all but last time HR used to tell the employees regarding their appraisal but I guess it is not right thing, Manager's need to do this job , right ?

Dear Jithin :
It will be good if both HR manager and immediate manager (Reporting officer) can together handover the letter.
In this way both of them can share their inputs/ feedback to employee.
