Hi Bhavya,
Both can considered as per available balance with employee. Many company just club the CL and SL in to one leave as CL, to avoid this confusion.
Also, note that in many companies SL is allowed to be carried to next year and also encashable on F&F (after Resignation), but CL is usually lapsed yea-to-year and not encashable. So, in such cases usually employee will claim all leave under CL to save his SL.
What's your company Policy on CL and SL?

Haha very funny, in our company we just mention remarks for sick leave as : NOT FEELING WELL
and for casual leave as : PERSONAL WORK
apart from that the company need not know more about leave reason only in cases of MEDICAL LEAVE ranging more than 2-3 days company insists for doctors certificate since it may be related with claims, or Medical Leave Quota / HPL.
Hope you understood the logic that no one follows SL CL seriously whichever leave balance is there employee will take according to their convenience.

I m agree with above hr said but its a common sence as he specify reason than u have to consider sl only but if no reason provided you can opt for both cl or sl and i will correct you one thing sl will not be carry forward nor the cl both lapsed in a year if no one have taken only el paid can be carry forward.
Hope everybody is clear specially ukmitra dnt put wrong inputs until u r not sure plz study hr leave policy
dnt mind

Dear sharmila
Not all cos follow same leave policy , and ukmitra told that some cos allow carrry forward of sl which is purely organisational decision. So there are cos in india which allow carryforward of sl.
You need to study hr policies correctly and understand that leave policies differ from co to co .
Pls dont mind if im harsh
sorry

If the check up is a part of company facility / compulsion then the person should be treated as 'on duty' . That is a fair policy. If it is personal decision, let that be his/her choice.

Infact it is upto the employee
which leave he would like to
avail as per his eligibility
i.e.leav in credit to his
account. Generally for Doctor\'s
check up employees will apply
for CL and accordingly it is to be calculated for sanction.
