Dear Seniors ,
I have two 2+ years of experience as HR generalist , I got married recently and need to move from my home town to North India since my wife works there and she loves her company and doesn't wanted to shift , my salary is very less , some companies says they can offer only 20-25% hike. I wont be able to survive with the current hike . I m in big trouble . I have few questions .
1. Since I have plans to move on to different State ( Cost of Living is higher) , can I expect a hike of at least of 50%
2. How much raise can I expect , my current package is 16,000 take home , I m expecting at least of 30K
3. Is my demand genuine ?
Note - I cant force her to come and work in my home town as she has a good package and she wont get the same profile.
Please do respond , badly seeking for advice.

Dear ?????
It is better to work both husband & wife in same Town. That will give you more satisfaction. Don't compare your salary with your spouse salary. Job satisfaction is more important than monetary benefit. Once you are having good exposure in your vertical then package may not be a big issue. Till that, you need to manage what ever be the salary you are going to get.
Under current economic situation if you are getting a hike of 15% is also good one.
Money or Family ........... pls decide.

You are not in a trouble but actually are worried about new life status and demands, and confused with a 'comparison' that made you upset. But one thing that you need to remember and understand is your present and total work experience which give you a value in the market that matters alot.

I accept there is a difference between the south and north Indian markets but it is certainly not that you cant get a good job with best salary package according to your experience and knowledge here.

Second, as you have decided to relocate and also getting upto 25% hike in your present salary, I believe you must not miss this chance if it is also providing you a good placement (good company) in the industry and chances to learn which can be a road to the success, because without a good and required experience in the industry, neither you nor any other one can expect the remuneration that you demanding with your present experience.

Lastly, you are educated, professional and a big man and I believe can understand what I wanted to say above by 'comparison', and this is certainly not to make you feel bad but to remind you that you can only expect the hike in your salary according to your experience, skills and knowledge.

Hope you got the answers of above your all questions..

Dear Friend
I totally agreed with Mr Rajshekharan and Mr Anil....With two years experience , you are getting 20 to 25% hike...It is more than good enough..It is rather better to stay in your homecity in case you expect just double hike.
You should accept the offers ;you are getting from North India....Once you shift there , you can easily try for more better option after one year.. Since your spouse is also working , I don't think it will be a taugh task to survive there...
As a North Indian , I can say that Delhi and chandigarh is the costliest city in North....In Delhi , if you have your own house / flat , nothing is costly here.....So , you just come to north with 20 - 25% hike...With the help of your spouse and bank loan ....try to purchase a small flat there.....then just see the magic.....everything will be on the track within 5-6 years....All the best friend...

Glad to see a young person who is considerate to his wife. Way to go.
I spent most of my working life in North India and I can confidently say that they appreciate and highly value certain qualities of south Indians.
Prove your worth and you would do very well. I am you have heard the proverb about the toad in a well.
All the best
