Irrespective of software or a manufacturing company, it is the good practice of having grace period, as the timings and schedules are beyond human calculations..I do enclose herewith Siti cable network office timings which will help you in apprising the authorities in the positive way. All is not bind or bound it is the human atrocity that want to show the power..
Best of luck..

Dear All
Pl don't allow any grace time to anybody - because all are paid for 8 (eight) hours of work. The Management should clearly and categorically inform that late coming - which is indiscipline cannot be tolerated under any circumstances and if anybody reports for work beyond the shift commencement time, he will not be permitted for work. There should not be any deviation in the system and it may cause some sort of problems @ the initial stages and after sometime it will become a healthy practice in the establishment.

Dear NATRAJ@SAKTHIMANAGEMENT.COM
May be its not possible for any company. in fact big mnc's are facing this problem. they just deduct late hrs amount from employees monthly pay. they are giving some grace time also. we are human benges, not machines. your idea is good but even company should not expect any OT from any employee if there is any work demand. thank you for replay

Hello all,

Most offices are practicing 9-6 / 9.30-6.30 / 10-7 working hours. At the same time many companies give a grace period of 15-30 minutes. Many other companies do not give grace period and deduct the amount by the minutes that they have walked in late.

However, as HR, one needs to realise that coming to office on time each day may not be possible. There are traffic issues, public transport issues, that one has to go through to come to office. Many situations are beyond the control of the employee. And it will always be a better practice to consider those situations.

My office has a practice of giving a grace period of 30 minutes, with the condition of completing 9 hours of work. Which means, if I walk in late by say 10 minutes of actual time, I have to leave late by 10 minutes of the out-time. This way, their pay for 9 hours is justified. We are allowed 3 late marks in a month, after which a half day salary deduction is practiced for each late mark. (We are marked late if we walk in beyond the allowed grace time).

In many software industry, I have noticed that they have a fixed in-time but no fixed out time. Late sitting is very common in such industry as they have to complete and submit the project on time. If this is the practice than not allowing grace time is just being unfair to the efforts that the employees give by sitting beyond the working hours to complete their job.

Though we cannot force a company to initiate the grace period as it do not fall into standing orders or compulsary acts that a firm needs to follow; but definitely it is a good practice to follow.

Senior's advice awaited.

Dear All
Allowing grace time will not be a healthy practice, because there will be no end to the grace time - if you allow 10 to 15 mts there will be request for further extension and somewhere you have to put an end. Pl try to educate the employees to be punctual for the shift / office timings. If you strictly follow the rule, employees will realise the importance and co-operate. Companies should be prepared not to allow late comers even @ the cost of production / performance of work - please believe that the employees respect strong and disciplined employers who could set good example to follow.
