a) Setting up a new branch office (we are an Indian MNC H.O. based at Mumbai);
b) Statutory compliance\'s regarding health & safety issues;
c) Compliance for setting up cafeteria in branch office.

Assuming that the new branch office carries activities of commercial in nature but not manufacturing, the said branch office will be covered by the Bombay Shops and Establishments Act 1948.The following are the basic statutory compliances in brief under the Act.
1) The branch office being an establishment within the meaning of Sec.2(8) of the Shops Act, it shall register in Form A with the BMC under Sec.7.
2) The branch office shall observe the stipulated opening and closing hours i.e not earlier than 8.30 A.M and not later than 9.30 A,M as per Sec.13 of the Act.
3) The branch office shall observe the hors of work with rest intervals and rest days as per Sec.14.15 and 18 read with rule (9).
4) The branch office shall grant annual leave of 21 days in a calendar year as per Sec.35
5) It has to observe holidays on 26th Jan, 1st may 15th August and 2nd October.
6) The Act prohibits double employment of employees ,and employment of child.
7)It should keep the premises free from effluents from drains and rubbishes and white wash or paint it and keep it clean as per sec.39 read with Rule 12.
8) It should keep the premises sufficiently ventilated as per Sec.40
9) there should be sufficient lighting during working hours.
10) it should take precautions against fire .There should not be smoking or use of any naked light in the vicinity of any inflammable material used in the premises as per Rule 14
11) Maintain Fist –Aid appliance with the prescribed tools and material as per Rule 15.
12) It has to maintain the following registers
a) register of employment in Form H or J
b) Notice of weekly off in Form L
c) Register of leave in form M
d) Leave Book in Form N
e) Abstract of the act and Rules on the notice board
f) Visit book as per Rule20
The coverage under the Gratuity Act, ESI and Act Contract Labour Act Industrial Employment Standing depends up on the number of employees working in the branch office ane Head office.
13)The name board shall be in Marathi
14) There is no obligation under the Shops Act to maintain cafetaria.
