Pls use gandhigiri...... Let all the people on the floor stand up and clap once someone walks in late (this may sound somewhat harsh sometimes) OR welcome them with a rose flower at the reception.

^ ya, sounds interesting and fun too! But some people are a hard nut to crack.
how about some negative reinforcement??but it could require a slight change in policy..like in my co., the official login is 9am and those who login at 10am, twice in one week then it costs them a salary dedcution of a half day..but u shud make sure you do this in a subtle way.but this shud be opted for, if the employee fails to come on time after sufficient verbal prodding

Late commers should be counselled verbally for once or twice and then for the third time they should be given a written notice that if they keep on coming late, their perfrmance will be affected and if the situation still persists, the employee's full day salary should be deducted.

There are a variety of methods to tackle this problem. One method I have used is to myself come in time and be available at the clock-in place. So the late comers know that they are being watched. Do this for a week or a fortnight. Identify the chronic cases. Next prepare punctuality chart of all employees and send it to the concerned executive. The issue of maintaining punctuality should be everybody's concern. If you take over this problem then all others will be happy and the situation will remain where it is. Then try to see whether any body has a personal problem in coming in time. Where there is a genuine difficulty see if any help could be given, but don't embarass the fellow before others. The hard nut cases may need negative punishments like deuction of leave or salary or even mention in CR may be resorted. But make this statement in the departmental meeting as to what will be the punitive measure.
But let me tell you, give enough work, keep such fellows extra loaded, monitior them a bit more, phone them right at the start of the day. Create a healthy work situation so that people look forward to coming to office. But the last thing I would advise you is to go after everybody and embarass them in public. You need to develop individual solution and have to devise multiple steps to tackle this problem. All the best in the meanwhile. KK nair

Ofcourse, this can be monitored very easily. In our company, if any employees coming late (if three-five minues late for non management cadre OR half hours late in management cadre in 3 times in a month), one day salary will be deducted with giving prior notification to the concerned employee's bosss (GM's cadre) OR one day leave will be adjusted from his leave balance.
You can follow this procedure so that employees can reach in accurate time. You can also implement this system without deduction of salary but a notification can be given to the Boss of concerned employees, if he is late 2-3 days in .....minutes.

Hi,
I agree to Mr.KK Nair's suggestion & would like to share my experience.
You can implement a policy from this new financial year, for late comings. We had similar problem in our company and had implemented the following 'Late Entry Policy'
- If an empl is late by 15mins for more than 4 times in a month OR totally by 1 hr in a month, half day is cut from his leave balance if any or salary.
- We mail the attendance of all empl's to their HOD's at the end of every month, so that no discrepancies arise after salaries are done.
- Simultaneously, for those 'HARD NUTS' that don't break even after monetory loss, verbal counselling is done.
Best Luck!!!

Hi,
In my organisation too we have the policy of deducting salary if they are late... for every three lates 1/2 day salary is deducted.
Like we announce bdays of the month... Rank the late comers and put up on display board or sent an e-mail.. Most punctual people on Top and then follows the late comers ... highlight those who come early... and send to all.. there shouldnt be any partiality... all employees name should be listed ..top management to hr to all
like the top ten songs is listed in TV channels.. if anyone has got lesser late than last time show an arrow that has gone up... those who have got higher latemarks give them an down arrow..and those stays the same just a hyphen-- u can come up with innovatiove methods like this.. if this still doesnt work.. go for deduction....

Discipline is not forced but can be made precedence. If discipline is forced by arm twisting acts such as curtailing monetary benefit, issuing so cause notices, etc. it has a negative impact on the organisation in the long run. So to my opinion first of all identify reason for late coming. There may be unavoidable circumstances for not reaching office in time. If the reason is unavoidable find other alternative and not force him to come in time. But when the reason is deliberate, first you ensure yourself that I am coming before time, all your colleagues are coming in time. If the late comer realises that I am the only person who is coming late regularly he will correct himself and evenwhen he is not coorecting himself that means he is thinking that he is above all and Company should get rid of such type of employee sooner than latter.
