Dear Member,
ISO Abrevation - International Standards Organization... Basically The ISO is an certificate which is issued to an unit for its products as our ISI.
I am working in an ISO 14001 & TS 16949 Institution. So I will share my views on the above mentioned certifications..
ISO 14001 certification is given for Environment Management
TS 16949 is a certification which is given for continual improvement. This is for Total Quality system
There are some organization's set up to get this certification. Few of them are
1. DNV

Dear Satish,
Please note that the full form of ISO is INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR STANDARDIZATION.
And ISO is issued to all units irrespective of their size & scope for process where as, ISI is issued especially for products. Hence, ISO is process oriented & ISI is product oriented.
So, please correct yourself.

Hi,
ISO = ISO is the certificate given for quality management system. this means you should make a system in organisation (Manufacturing, services) as per requirement of ISO 9001:2008 and then third party (certification body) comes and review your documentation against ISO 9001:2008 and implementation with effectiveness against your documents. ISO 9001:2008 can be get by any type, any size of organisation or business.
TS 16949 = This is the technical specification standard made for automotive sector and their supply chain. the standard talks more about process stability, repeatability and reproducability. Because in automotive accuracy is very very improtant and as well as meeting customer committments.
ISO 14001 = This standard talks about how you manage environment system in your organisation. this means how much you are taking care to reduce or elimate polltion of air, water and solid waste.
For more details you cango to iso.org site.
