Hi Dear All,
I have one question:
Our working hours per day is 8 hours(9am-12am,1pm-6pm), and our current lunch break is 1 hour, and now we want to change lunch break to 1.5hours, but if we do that, the working hour will become 7.5hours. And we don't want to add half hour to work.
So please guide and advise me! Thank you very much!
Sincerely,Freda

Dear Freda, I hope 1 hour itself is a bigger break you give, what is the reason that you want to increase to 1.5 hours. Please rethink about your idea. Thanks & Regards Amal Shere

Hi,Amal thanks for your reply. Well, all staffs and my branch manager think that one hour break is too short for us. So we 'd like to change to 1.5 hours. Amal, do you have some advise? Please!

Simple.
In any organisation, employes should put in minimum 8 hours of work per day (not including lunch/tea/coffee breaks). One hour is very good enough, i am sure this one hour must be becoming 1hr 30mins everyday (am damn sure).
If you increase in this lunch break, subsequent increase in the work time has to be made....this goes without saying. In our organisation we believe : have lunch, relax for 5 minutes and back to work. Come to work on time, and leave on time....thats our principle.
I hold : increase in lunch time (which i feel is unnecessary in your case) will have to be complimented with a raise in office hours.

So,you mean that our working hours should change from 9am-6pm to 9am-6.30pm, right?
But dear Amal, problem is no staff wants to increas working hours instead of increasing lunch break.
So I 'm really confused in this case.

Give them two options:
1. Increase lunch time by 30 mts and working hour will end at 6:30 instead of 6.
2. No. increase in lunch time.
You can also carry out a poll for the same giving options and take decision accordingly.
Regards,
Nilendra

put it staright, be candid about the thought that increase in work hours means increase in working hours, less work hjours may affect the productivity of the orgn.... it will affect in the longrun the performance of teh employees, all have to work for certain no. of hours to achieve the required targets etc....

Hi there !
You can solve this by arithmatic. You declare that from now onwards an hour will be 50 minutes. Thus if you begin at 9 in the morning, all you work and lunch will be over by 5.00 pm !
Great and funny !
Seriously speaking, Ambika has told you what you can do. Just go through it again.

Dear Freda,
Freda ask the staff how they are going to compensate the 1/2 hr lost, 1 & 1/2 do not justify legally when all the general organisation practices 1/2 hour lunch time. If your staff do not justify 1/2 hr lost they have no right to negotiate relax hours with hours.
Straight keep the proposal that the Company is deciding to shrink the lunch break to 1/2 hr maintaining the office time as same. The issue will drop without any persuasion to the demand.
Thanks
