Hi,
It is better you may continue in Purchase function, because you have 3 years experience its easy for you to grow in your career by continuing in the same function. If you try to enter into HR, you will be considered as fresher.
PG diploma in Supply chain management course / material management / logistics, which may helps your career.

Dear Jyothsna
As suggested by Mr. Narayan it is better to continue with Purchase department itself. If at all you are really wanna change the career it is better to discuss with the management and initiate the process of HR functions slowly. So it might help in your career for shifting from Purchase to HR

Dear Jyothsna,

I would like to suggest you that please sit with yourself at a quite place think deeply and answer the following questions:

1. What do you want to do in life?

2. What do you want to be in life?

3. What kind of work you want to do?

4. What are your career aspirations in the short run and in the long run?

5. What are your likes and dislikes?

6. What are your strengths and areas of improvements?

7. What are your skills/ competencies?

8. Are your strengths, skills and likes aligned with the kid of career you want to build?

In my opinion you are more successful in your career if your skills, natural talents and personality traits are aligned with your career. In your case if this alignment is there, then go for a career in HR otherwise stay in your current function.

If you decide to go for a career in HR, the best strategy is to request your current employer for a lateral transfer in HR function. Look for a change of employer if your request is not accepted. Major functional change in career is relatively easier in the same company. You face difficulties to look for a major career transition and a change of employer simultaneously. However, nothing is impossible. You can achieve your dreams if you have an intense desire.

If you decide for look for a job in HR function with a different employer, then doing short practical course in HR will help you to find the job of your choice. A few people have started offering a short courses in HR.

I am a Coach and I do career/ life/ wealth coaching. I am also a trainer and a management consultant running my consultancy under the name of Aspiring People.
