Hi. I want to resign from the current recruitment agency I work for. In my contract, the following is stated:

"In the event of leaving the company, you may not contact any client for your own gain or your new company for a period of a year"

A client wants to employ me. Am I allowed? Or can there be legal action taken against me or the Client?

Very badly worded contract. I would talk to your employer to seek clarification.

Usually these things mean that you cannot leave and go to work for another organisation in the same business ( e.g. recruitment agency in your case) for a specified time.

Are you going to do a totally different job to what you are doing now? Your superiors might argue that in recruiting you, the company should pay the same fee as if they were sending another candidate to the company to fill the position.
