LTA is a tax exempted component. You can claim twice in a block year of 4 for tax exemption. The current block year is 2009-13. There is no specified limit for LTA. Normally, 2 basic are allowed for LTA in a year. You have to produce Travel tickets (Air or rail) for claiming tax exemption. Self and his dependents are eligible for LTA travel.

Discuss with your HR if it is part of your CTC. For your salary, you will not be liable for I.Tax. For availing tax benefits for LTA, you have to apply min 6 days of PL/EL.

- Leave Travel Assistance (LTA) is the benefit. Not necessarily everyone gets it. Please check your Appointment Letter, your HR Manual/Handbook/Policy or checkout with your HR Team to find out your eligibility.
- Generally LTA is annually paid fixed amount and it is uniform for particular grade or category of employees and it is not necessarily linked to length of service or salary drawn.

Dear Narasimha Reddy,
It depends on salary structure of the organisation. Generally , LTA is one of salary component and will be of amount equivalent to Basic Pay. As a optional, this can be at higher amount in the cases of seniors drawing higher remuenration.
This depens on remuneration package and this can be tailor made suitably.
This qualifies for tax exemtion. But, only two LTAs are eligible for tax exemption in the block of 4 Years.
To avail LTA exemtpion, this should be claimed against Bills and supportive vouchers etc. to avail exemtion.
With best wishes
