From last 4 years i was running my own business of recruitment ie providing manpower to some of the best companies in India. Because of some fund problems i had to shut down my business few month back. Now since last 3 months i m working in a starch plant as a liaison officer . I have to deal with government officers in departments like pollution, fire, electricity etc. As u all know that government officers do not do any work easily and create one or the other obstacle for any work given to them and ultimately they want some money to do anything.
My problem is that my director thinks that getting work done in any government department is very easy and always pushes me to do things as fast as possible or otherwise resign from the job. I m a post graduate in marketing and IT and right now my salary is 35 k in hand . I joined this company by a reference . i didn't get any offer letter and my salary is paid in cash. now its a very confused state wherein i m not able to decide what to do because in my job i can only pursue the government officers and cannot force them for any work and my director says that what is my contribution to the organization in last 3 months? we also have a marketing and sales department . Some of my colleagues say that i should shift to marketing and sales department but others say that sales is very tough so i should not join there. i just want your advice that what should i do in this situation ?

Don't go by what others say. Actually, do you have any choice, be it sales or marketing or liaison, if you don't have, better concentrate on your job requirement. Perhaps you could give more frequent feedback on your efforts. Getting the government officials to work as you need, requires tremendous follow up and persuasive ability. You will have to physically interact with the authorities concerned and shamelessly persuade the authorities to get your work done. They will give excuses and vague promises but knowing them to be so, you will have to persist with their tantrums till they are exasperated and agree to your request. Bribing your way is an easy option but you are setting a bad precedent and soon it reaches a stage where the demands outgrow your ability to pay and it becomes disagreeable. While small courtesies like diary or gift on occasions like Diwali or hosting lunch/dinner is unavoidable, my experience shows that building rapport with the officials concerned and peace time friendships serve best rather than paying lavishly at crisis points. If you are able to follow this broad policy, then you may get some success.
Now as regards choosing any other field, is there a requirement of additional hand, then you can offer yourself. You may broach the subject to your superiors as and when suitable occasion arises.
