Hi, I want to discuss about implementing 5 days work culture in all companies in India. Since we are the big democratic and youthful nation, we are the people with diversified minds and resource.
Even some of the private companies are implementing the 5 days work culture , still many companies are following the 6 days work culture. This result in boredom and fatigue for employees.
We shall exclude the essential services fields in this discussion.
As a result of working for 6 days, people are getting a distance between work - life and balance.
Note: 5 days working was first introduced in India by Henry ford. Happy employees = Happy clients.
Advantages of 5 days working:
* Better productivity
* Healthy and active employees.
* Work-life balance for employees.
* In 2 days 1 day for self-healing and 1 day for rest.
* Low attrition rate
* Can do more than regular job.
* Can divert your mind to your hobbies and develop as a talent.
* Enjoy their weekend completely.
* Explore more places in their nearby areas.
* Can pursue their studies in correspondence.
Kindly share your views
Thank you.

Dear Friend,
Implementing five days work culture, may look good for certain type of work and the same did not fit in all working place.
1) In the five days working culture working time will increase
2) Ultimately the employee suffer fatigue and imbalance in life
3) After two days of rest usual Sunday fever/Monday work will bring a lot of inward unrest to fit to the job
4) When holidays come on Friday or Monday the leave will go for one more day the employee work for 4 days and not 5 days.
5) Natural calamities and other bandh etc., will take some more days neither predictable nor we presume these days
6) Essential works may suffer as many a employee enjoy two days of holidays a untold biased activities will increase
7) Bachelor employees may suffer with undefined way of life
8) You know it or not because of two Saturdays ( 2nd and 4th Saturday leave to the bank employees) many a sufferings are being faced by the people untold people are watching and waiting to ponder upon. Some banks opened on Sundays to help people nowadays they lost the customer relations complaint increased and there is a lot of cultural change in the industry. Actually we did lost the humane touch of work ethics.
9) Some Govt.Servants work on Saturdays without focussed by the media where media only speak about bribe, news getting hot etc.,
Apart from these if you want to say more about 5 days it is enjoyable and you will get paid for 10 days extra salary for working 20 days, if it is four weeks then 8 days leave, every thing have its own ups and downs.

With lakhs of unemployed educated youth, it is advisable to go for seven day working so that 1/6 th of the work force will get employment. This practice is prevalent in Textile industries, continuous process industries etc., Some of the State Govts are also exempting Shops & Estts to keep open for 365 days in the year. Regards.

I think its good for employees or employer also, but I think we want slightly change to view in my opinion we should give half day for last working day. Its not effect to employees neither employer also.

Dear friends,
If the purpose is to achieve work-life balancing, 5day work concept may not be the only answer. The practice of flexible time, work from home, overlapping shift timings, and exploiting huge potential of building and engaging part time back up work force for all kinds of jobs should be strengthened and become way of life.

Dear Friends,
5 days week culture is benefited for limited establishments only.
For shops where daily customers are involved, employer will not agree. As he has to appoint more personnel.
In the Banks, there is 2nd and 4th Saturday off, and timing is up to 7.00 pm, customers can visit and do the bank cash transactions.
It will be necessary to increase timings up to 9.00 pm for 5 days working.
Where continues process involved, employer may need to appoint more personnel.
Accordingly, there are benefits as well as drawbacks of 5 days week.

Dear All,
Thank u everyone who shared their views and appreciation.
I agree that Indians still suffering from Unemployment and other work related issues. But my point is about the people who are working for 6 days whereas they can even complete their work in 5 days.
As a HR professional i wanted to quote that providing two days as week-off will not hamper any work. If that was not a emergency or any crucial work nature.
Adding to that people can visit "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Workweek_and_weekend" in that you can find the working hours and weekend for around the world.
In the above mentioned page you will come to know that only India having the long & extended working hours according to that data.
While you can verify that even under developed countries and well developed countries are sail in the same boat.
The two days week-off might not necessarily on Saturdays and Sundays. We shall provide in "Swap method".
For the instance as per our Labour law the working hours are 48 for a week and 8 hours per day. Hence we need to stay in work for 9 hours which includes the 1 hour break. So 9 * 6 = 54 hours in a week.
Instead of this working 10 hours per day including the 1 hour break for 5 days hence approx. we can complete the work in 5 days.
This will not be a Panacea for all work related and Labour problems in India but for sure will not be a devastating or suicidal attempt for our country.
Kindly remember WORK STRESS is a slow poison.
EACH FOR ALL & ALL FOR EACH.
Thank you.

Implementing a 5 days work week is not a bad idea, but you have to take into account the industry where it has to be done. A Retail industry will never be able to implement the same, nor will the Manufacturing industry be able to implement them. It is because, retail industry has to sell everyday and the Manufacturing industry the machines, itself takes a longer time to charge up and come to the full working capacity.
If you are speaking from the Travel industry, again not possible as its a service industry.
So When we say implementing it across the nation, that's a impossibility. Also, in a city like Mumbai / Bangalore, think what will be the mental state of a person traveling after working for 10 hours a day... Will they survive the travel, which anyways is still a problem.
So 2 days as work off is not the only solutions, the other factors should also be supporting towards them, which unfortunately is not going to happen.
Many casual workers are going to lose wages, as they work on daily wages and work for 7 days, so that they can enjoy their 2 months long vacation, when they go to their home town.
I am not saying that, we should not move towards it, but should we just move, without considering the industry demands, where we work as HR?
